    Bette Lou Madison, 80, formerly of Southborough

    Bette Lou Madison, 80, of Clinton and formerly a longtime resident of Southborough, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 at the Reservoir of Marlborough after long illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph J. Madison for 60 years.

    Joan Ledgard, 82, of Leominster, a former longtime Lancaster resident, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 7, at the Leominster Hospital. Born in Shaftsbury, Vt., and raised and educated in the Bennington area, she was the daughter of the late William and Marguerite Murrell.

    Born: 7-Mar - 1849 Birthplace: Lancaster, MA Died: 11-Apr - 1926 Location of death: Santa Rosa, CA Cause of death: Heart Failure Remains: Buried, Luther Burbank Home and Gardens, Santa Rosa, CA Luther Burbank was the son of a farmer and had little formal education, attending high school only in the winter and working on his father's farm the rest of the year. His scientific training came from borrowing the local library's books, and especially from reading Charles Darwin 's Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication , which motivated Burbank to begin grafting and budding plants.
