Robert Mosher, a La Jolla architect who most famously designed the Coronado Bridge, died July 26 at the age of 94. The designer was the first of a new breed of postwar modern architects who changed the look of modern cities. The two-mile curving Coronado Bridge opened in August 1969 to great acclaim, a year later winning the "Most Beautiful Bridge" Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction, according to the architect's website . He worked with bridge engineers to create its iconic curve, which was needed to make the bridge high enough for navy ships to safely sail under. He also designed additions to the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. Comment?
