    Community hosts candlelight vigil for Antonio Hines

    Community members gathered on Friday to hold hands, sing, pray and remember the life of Antonio Hines at a candle light vigil held at the Temple of Deliverance and Faith in Kinston. "Once again, I pick up my pen heavy in heart, for another soul has depart," Maya Swinson, former principal at Rochelle Middle School, said as she read from a poem she wrote for the vigil.

    Police in Kinston have arrested two teenagers and are looking for two more suspects in the shooting death of an 18-year-old. Authorities told area media outlets that the two arrests came on Monday at a local home.

    Homicide reported near Bill Fay Park

    Interim Kinston Department of Public Safety Chief Greg Thompson said officers responded to a shots-fired call at the park at around 5:13 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the body of a young black male teenager with multiple gunshot wounds on the property of Westside Free Will Baptist Church on Lynn Drive. The victim, whose name and age are currently being withheld while police speak with his family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Memorial service scheduled for Federal soldier at Ce...

    A special memorial service is scheduled Saturday in New Bern for a Federal soldier, believed to be the only one from a local Civil War battle buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The ceremony will be at 2 p.m., conducted by The Sons of the Confederate Veterans, along with the 5th and 7th North Carolina.
