    William E. - Bill' Bearer

    Surviving are two daughters: Joan Ronan of Johnstown and Cheryl Martin of Palmyra; five grandchildren: Jessalyn Vermillion, Kyle Ronan , Kerralyn Ronan, Leah Beierschmitt and Tess Martin; three great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Martin, Carson Beierschmitt and Vivian Vermillion; three siblings: Elizabeth Perry of Chambersburg and Ben and Bernard , all of Carrolltown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ethel Bearer, on July 2, 2012; a sister, Barbara Mulligan; and a brother, Robert.

    Born March 12, 1925, in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Charles Odell Gilliland and Emma Mabel Gilliland, Callahan. Surviving is his wife Dorothy J. Gilliland, whom he married Aug. 23, 1980.

    When two men visited a yard sale in Western Pennsylvania last month, they browsed under the shelter of a blue tarp through the typical wares: dishes and vases, books and DVDs, old paintings and used clothes. They spent about $10 between them.
