    Dr. Hally Beth Walker Poindexter , who worked tirelessly to establish women's intercollegiate athletics at Rice University, will be remembered in a special memorial service at the Rice Memorial Chapel, 6100 Main St. in Houston on Friday at 10 a.m. Hally passed away on Tuesday, July 19. In conjunction with Dr. Eva Lee, Poindexter worked to establish women's intercollegiate athletics at Rice. The 1947 Rice graduate spent nearly 20 years as the chair of the Department of Kinesiology.

    The officers were on routine patrol about 1 a.m Saturday in southeast Houston when they saw a man with a revolver in the middle of Cullen Boulevard, KHOU reports . The officers got out of the patrol car and told the man to drop the gun, as did a witness standing beside him, the station reports.
