    Family, friends mourn dead Subway worker as a hero

    Robbers who killed Subway employee Javier Flores, 18, who was protecting his mother are caught on camera robbing another Subway just 30 minutes later. The 18-year-old Subway worker was killed Wednesday night in a burst of gunfire after he leaped in front of his mother when a pair of armed robbers targeted the southeast Houston store where the Chavez High School student and his mom both worked.

    Gary Cartwright , a former North Texas sportswriter whose features and profiles became part of the foundation of Texas Monthly magazine , has died at the age of 82. Close friend and fellow Texas Monthly writer Jan Reid says Cartwright died Wednesday morning in the Seton Hospital in Austin. Reid's wife, Dorothy Browne , said Cartwright had fallen in his home Feb. 10 and remained on the floor for four days before neighbors found him during a welfare check.

    Falcons star receiver wears bracelet in memory of teen

    When Dothan's Chris and Sophia Jones presented the blue bracelet to Atlanta Falcons ' star Julio Jones after a game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 4, they didn't know whether the receiver would wear it or not. They just wanted him to have it in memory of their son, Savoy Jones, who unexpectedly passed away following a basketball practice at Emmanuel Christian School in Dothan four years ago.
