    Alan Colmes, liberal voice on Fox, dead at 66

    Alan Colmes, the radio and television host and commentator best known as the amiable liberal foil to the hard-right Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel, has died. Fox spokeswoman Dana Klinghoffer confirmed his death Thursday.

    Police say newly freed gang member killed California...

    A gang member who was recently freed from jail killed his cousin and stole his car Monday then shot and killed a California police officer and wounded his partner before being wounded himself, authorities said. Whittier Officer Keith Lane Boyer died and Officer Patrick Hazel was wounded when they answered a report of a traffic accident in the eastern Los Angeles County suburb.

    Mytaras worked in an expressionist style, often influenced by the art of Greece's classical antiquity, using bold colors for subjects ranging from female profile portraits to dogs and motorcycles. He studied art in Athens and Paris, and taught for years at the Athens School of Fine Arts, serving as its rector from 1982-85.

    Boscov's chairman Albert Boscov dies at 87

    Boscov's CEO and vice chairman Jim Boscov said in a statement that his uncle died Friday of cancer at his home in Reading, Pennsylvania, "surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters." Albert Boscov was credited with driving the growth of the business established by his father in 1914 to sales in excess of $1 billion and employing more than 7,500 people.

    Physicist Peter Mansfield, who won the Nobel Prize for helping to invent MRI scanners, has died at the age of 83. He shared the 2003 Nobel Prize in medicine with U.S. chemist Paul Lauterbur for their work developing magnetic resonance imaging, which uses magnetic fields and radio waves to generate 3-D images of the body's internal organs without potentially harmful X-rays. In 1978, Mansfield became the first person to step inside a whole-body MRI scanner so it could be tested on a human subject.

    The city of Ferguson, Missouri, has dropped its appeal of a federal jury's $3 million award to survivors of a naked, unarmed, black man who died after a police officer repeatedly shocked him with a stun gun and will pay the money, court filings show. A federal judge in St. Louis, after a brief hearing Wednesday, deferred his approval of the settlement until March 1, giving additional time for Jason Moore's survivors to structure how his 18-year-old son's 35-percent stake of the deal will be paid.
