    Soon after the sun set over Santa Barbara, Ann Hagan grabbed a marker and wrote a short message to the 20 strangers who died in the devastating Montecito mudslides. “In our hearts,” she wrote before signing her name on a whiteboard put up at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

    Sheriff Expands Mandatory Evacuation Zone in Monteci...

    Mandatory evacuation orders were expanded to Montecito areas below State Route 192 Thursday, and Sheriff Bill Brown said the move is meant to increase access for rescue and repair crews working in the area. The orders apply to the previously-defined Public Safety Exclusion Zone, where crews are hard at work searching for survivors and victims of the deadly flash floods and mudslides that hit the area early Tuesday morning.

    Memorial Service for George Rempe Set for Saturday a...

    A celebration of the life of George Rempe will be held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 3:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara High School auditorium. Rempe, a longtime volunteer assistant baseball coach at Santa Barbara High, passed away on New Year's Eve at the age of 73. "A great loss to me personally and more importantly to the community in SB and beyond," wrote Thomas Singher, one of his former players and a friend in an email to Noozhawk.

    Jonathan Erik Krueger of Goleta, 1981-2017

    Jonathan Erik Krueger was born on June 7, 1981, in Lansing, Michigan, and passed away on Dec. 3, 2017 in his home in Goleta. Jon was born 12 weeks premature, but he was a fighter from the beginning, overcoming many health challenges through excellent physicians and caregivers and the prayers of many who loved him, especially his natural mother, Mary Jane Krueger, who gave her life for Jon that he might live.
