    Flay Howard Morrison, Jr., age 80, of Lincolnton, passed away January 15, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. He was born on August 22, 1936 in Cleveland County to the late Flay Howard, Sr. and Ossie Brite Craig Morrison.

    Jurors eye weapon used to kill a man

    Zinna is accused of shooting his wife, Candy Zinna, and gunning down his neighbor, Mark Sheridan, on Jan. 1, 2016. According to testimony Wednesday, Zinna was on the outs with both his wife and his neighbor when violence erupted in the quiet Jefferson Woods neighborhood off of Redbud Road in Gastonia.

    ABERNETHY, Dorothy "Dolly" Padgett Age 100, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village where she had resided for 10 years. She was born September 29, 1916 in Gastonia, North Carolina and moved to Middletown in the late 1930's when her husband, Ted, began his career as a research engineer at Armco Steel Corporation.

    Family finds peace in a picture

    A simple picture hanging on the wall of a Bessemer City restaurant brought comfort to a family, and when those at the Surf and Turf Lodge learned of the back story they took the framed print off the wall and sent it home with them. "It was like a Christmas Miracle for us," said Donna Norman of Gastonia.

    'She loved her family'

    Simmons, who has a 5-year-old son, lived her life with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes complications in the respiratory system and other organs and difficulties with breathing. In October, her condition had deteriorated to the point that doctors predicted she had less than six months to live.
