    Charles 'Charlie' C. Fletcher

    Charlie is survived by his sons, Gary Fletcher of Hendersonville, N.C., and Dean Fletcher of Canton, Ga.; brother, T.P. Fletcher of Canton, N.C.; sister, Louise Fletcher of Gastonia, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The service will be held at 7 p.m. today, July 24, 2018, in the chapel of Fike-Randolph and Son Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating.

    Jury selection begins in trial of Gaston man charged...

    A judge ruled Monday that a Gastonia man accused of killing a 90-year-old World War II veteran during a spree of crimes in 2017 will stand trial, despite a request from the defense for time to complete a mental-health evaluation. Brian Thad Carver is charged with first-degree murder in the March 2017 death of Ray Ronald Jackson of Dallas.

    Trial to start for man accused of killing girlfriend...

    Nearly two years after police found 3-year-old Jordyn Dumont buried in a shallow grave, prosecutors will try to answer the question of who killed a little girl who became a symbol for some of the problems associated with child protective services in Gaston County. William Joseph McCullen, who was the live-in boyfriend of Jordyn's mother, goes on trial on a first-degree murder charge in the little girl's death Monday.

    Police ID man killed in wreck

    A Kings Mountain man died Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle on West Franklin Boulevard near the Wal-Mart on Myrtle School Road, according to Gastonia Police. Wesley Harris, 31, was in the eastbound lane of Franklin Boulevard at 3:53 a.m. when he was struck by a 2003 Honda Accord driven by 18-year-old woman from Shelby, according to Gastonia Police.
