While it's easy to get caught up in all the hype of the start of the summer season, we at the Patch would like to take a moment to remember why Memorial Day exists : to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. The tradition began three years after the Civil War ended, when Decoration Day was established as a day to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers, according to the Veterans Administration's website. Richard attended St. Thomas Aquinas School in Croydon, and was the owner/operator of Cozy Corners of Blakeslee for more than 20 years. He was a member of Christ the King Church, Blakeslee, until its closing and merger. Comment?

On Saturday, members of Ardena Baptist Church in Howell will bury the infant found in November; her mother remains unidentified. On Saturday, the 1-day-old baby girl will receive a proper burial, thanks to the members of the Ardena Baptist Church, The baby's body was found Nov. 11 by workers at the ReCommunity Recycling facility. Comment?
