    Woman who settled sexual harassment claim against ex...

    A woman who received a large settlement from Tarrant County in 2012 over allegations of sexual harrassment against former district attorney Joe Shannon died Wednesday at her home in rural Parker County. Sabrina Sabin, 48, was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

    Texas Monthly writer Gary Cartwright dies at 82

    Gary Cartwright, the Texas Monthly writer known for his colorful life and lively writing, died in Austin at 82 after a fall, according to reports. Cartwright, who attended Arlington High School, worked at the Fort Worth Press and was a night cops reporter at the Star-Telegram in the 1950s, fell in his Austin home on Valentine's Day, his granddaughter told The Dallas Morning News.

    Cecil Wilson - a Cowboy fullback who recorded career totals of 550 rushing yards, 182 receiving yards and five rushing touchdowns - died this week in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, according an OSU athletics news release. He was 49. Per a Go Fund Me account set up by the family, Wilson suffered a brain aneurysm Jan. 4. "I've always respected guys most who get the most out of themselves, and that's Cecil," former OSU coach Pat Jones told in 1989.

    Every spring I look forward to driving to Fort Worth early on a Friday to spend the weekend at the Marriott Courtyard near the Bass Performance Hall, seeing three operas over the course of the weekend and enjoying all the food and fun and culture of Fort Worth. To think that this year I will not see Darren's glowing face and bask in his boundless enthusiasm for opera - and for those of us who love it - is just devastating.
