A Durham man blames the death of his family's beloved German shepherd on an uncovered well, which he calls “irresponsible.” At about 9 p.m. on June 1, Scott Schaier notified the Durham police that he and his wife, Sarah, had found Schultzy, age 13, drowned in an open well in the woods of 27 Durham Point Road, about 500 yards from the Schaier's property, said Durham Police Deputy Chief Rene Kelley.
