When then-Mobile resident Margie Wikle stepped inside Shoney's Restaurant in Daphne to partake of the breakfast buffet one January morning in 1998, she wasn't searching for companionship, she was simply grabbing a bite to eat on her way to the beach. As luck would have it, the only other diner in the restaurant that morning was Charles Arthur "Chuck" Spaulding Jr., who approached Margie and asked if he might share her company as they ate their meal. Michael Joseph "Mike" Hall , a Daphne native and resident of Biloxi, died on Dec. 31. He was 60 years old. A 1973 graduate of Fairhope High School, Hall was an avid fisherman who loved antique guns and University of Alabama football. Comment?

Survivors include children, Carl Lawler of Martinsville, Charlotte O'Neal of Franklin, Jessie Lucas of Middletown, Velma Northcutt of Indianapolis and Peggy Sue Hayden of Daphne, Alabama; sisters, Hazel Dixon, Bessie James and Helen Mize , all of Tennessee; brothers, Paul Potter and Ralph Potter, both of Tennessee; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband; a son, David Lawler; and brothers, Edwin Potter, Clenice Potter and Arnold Potter Jr. She was a member of Second Mount Pleasant Baptist Church near Franklin, where she was a deaconess and was active in the choir for 40 years.
