    Columbus man pleads to killing girlfriend in infant'...

    A Columbus man who gunned down his girlfriend in the presence of their infant daughter was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter. Attorneys said Robert Junior Taylor's "troubled relationship" with 32-year-old Lakeisha Shoulders came to a bloody end on March 29, 2013, when during a dispute he shot her three times with a 9mm pistol in their tiny apartment at 4249 Debby St., where their 9-month-old daughter was in a nearby playpen.

    Friends of a man who died following a big brawl at a Columbus bar last weekend broke their silence on Wednesday during an exclusive interview with News Leader 9. One of the woman recounted the events leading up to the fight, which she said, started in the parking lot of Outlaws Saloon on north Veterans Parkway around 3 a.m. Saturday. "We were all walking to our cars at the other end of the parking lot in front of Rooms-to -Go and there were some guys already fighting.

    Police: Phenix City man dies following incident at C...

    A 23-year-old Phenix City man died Sunday after being involved in an incident at a Columbus bar during the weekend, according to Columbus Police. Marquis Brown of Phenix City was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Columbus Midtown Medical Center, Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley said.

    Columbus police have confirmed that a man involved in an incident at a Columbus bar on Saturday night passed away on Sunday. According to Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley, 23-year-old Marquis Brown died at 8 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center.

    Born June 8, 1951, in Fort Bragg, she lived in Columbus, Ga., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mililani, Hawaii, before moving to Pinehurst. Bonnie had a long and distinguished career in the hospitality industry, including time at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst and other area venues, until retiring in 2015.

    A 25-year-old man died early today after the car he was riding in crashed on Woodruff Farm Road near Fort Middle School, authorities said. Kevin Foy of Columbus was pronounced dead at Midtown Medical Center at 1:57 a.m., Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said.

    Businessman, former Tech grid star George W. Mathews...

    George William Mathews, Jr., a successful Columbus businessman and former football star at Georgia Tech died Saturday in Atlanta at the age of 88. Mathews was born in 1927 and attended Columbus public schools, graduating from Columbus High before moving on to Georgia Tech. At Tech, he played basketball and football, excelling at the latter as a running back and defensive back under legendary coaches William Alexander and Bobby Dodd.
