    Retired architect and educator Theodore Sande , a scholarly and genial advocate of historic preservation who led the Western Reserve Historical Society from 1981 to 1993, died Saturday in hospice care at his home in Cleveland's Shaker Square neighborhood. He was 84. A New Englander who spent most of his career on the East Coast before moving to Cleveland to head the historical society, Ted Sande believed strongly in preserving historic buildings, but he wasn't a purist.
