    Carl Charles "The Bayonne Elvis" Anderson Sr., a lifelong resident and community fixture of Bayonne passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017. Residents remember him as "the Bayonne Elvis" for driving up and down Broadway in a Chevy Astro with a supercharger protruding from the hood and yellow flames emblazoned on the side, along with musical notes, Elvis's face, and the words, "Blast From The Past," and "Remembering Our Favorite Oldies."

    106 mph death-by-auto trial begins in Newark

    It was an emotional morning at the Essex County courthouse for more than a dozen people as opening statements began for 2015 crash that killed two friends crossing Route 440 in Bayonne. Family and friends of Tyler Sellers and Sabore Worrell wiped tears from their eyes as Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Leo Hernandez described to a 16-person jury how the men died from the "catastropic injuries" they suffered on Nov. 2. The driver, 26-year-old Waqas Ibrar, is charged with two counts of death by auto.

"Speed, ladies and gentlemen, is an issue in this case," Hernandez said in Judge Nancy Sivili's 12th floor courtroom.

    FIGUEROA, CHESTER

    A memorial service was held Oct. 21 for Chester Figueroa, 89, who owned and operated Kozak Paints on Central Ave with his partner John Kozak for over 25 years. He passed away on Oct. 13. He was active in his community, coaching both Little League and Pop Warner football for many years.
