    Ruth Irene Conrad NEWARK: Ruth Irene Conrad died peacefully on April 27, 2015, in Newark, Ohio at the age of 90. Mrs. Conrad is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Ralph Russell Conrad of Hagerstown, MD, Martin Russell Conrad, Jr. of Excelsior Springs, MO, Robert Allen Conrad of Shelby Township, MI, William F. Conrad of Granville, OH, Ruth Ann Hood of Augusta, GA, Carol Jean Dabney of Clinton, TN, and John Thomas Conrad of Colorado Springs, CO.; she is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, SFC Martin Russell Conrad, USA .

    Pete Brown, first black to win on PGA Tour, dies at 80

    Two days after the death of Calvin Peete, the 1985 Players champion, another pioneering African-American golfer has passed away. Pete Brown, the first black golfer to win a PGA Tour event, died Friday at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga., at the age of 80. Brown won the 1964 Waco Turner Open and the 1970 Andy Williams-San Diego Open, the highlights to a 17-year career on the PGA Tour.

    Stanley Matthew Thomas II

    He was born in Altoona, son of Deneen Thomas and the late Stanley Thomas I. Surviving are his mother of Augusta, Ga.; four children: Zy'El, Jamarcus, Jazyia and Ta'Tauna; and five siblings: Serena, Tanesha, Marisa and Michael Thomas and Akeen Whitehead. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annastaycia L. Thomas.

    When Donna Rae Johnson and her husband, a sergeant, were living just outside Augusta, Ga., in the 1950s, they loved to entertain friends of all races from the nearby base. Even the appearance of a burning cross in their yard to protest their open-mindedness didn't stop them.

He is survived by two children, Tom Proctor of Elburn and Nancy Henrikson of Morristown, Tenn; five grandchildren, Matt Proctor and their children, Nicholas and Ryan, of Elburn, Chris Proctor of Elburn, Scott Proctor of Elburn, Kellie Henrikson and her daughters, Sammie and Lexi, of Morristown, Tenn., and Marianne Roberts of Augusta, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Proctor of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; one sister, Sandra Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
