Mill Valley landscape architect Michael Painter, who re-envisioned Doyle Drive into the new Presidio Parkway that thousands of Marin commuters use daily, died of cancer at his home on June 29. He was 83. Mr. Painter worked on the gravesite of President John F. Kennedy and helped reshape San Francisco's Great Highway, but arguably his most noted work was the concept of the new Presidio Parkway, which opened in 2015, born out of the demolition of seismically challenged Doyle Drive.
