    Look Back ... to the passing of Jacksonville's mayor...

    July 30, 1943, in The Star: Funeral services were to be conducted at Jacksonville Baptist Church at 4 this afternoon for Mayor Charles A. Stephens, age 63, who died late yesterday afternoon from a stroke of paralysis he suffered the previous night. Mayor Stephens had not been feeling well for several days and had complained of dizziness.

    July 15, 1943, in The Star: Businessmen C. A. Hamilton and L. A. Draper have bought the old Hale Buggy Manufacturing Company building on West 15th Street in Anniston. The property has housed a cotton warehouse business for some time and was bought from First National Bank for $14,250.
