Ralph Ketner, who helped turned $50 investments in a North Carolina grocery store into the Food Lion chain with more than 1,100 stores across the Southeast, died May 29 in Salisbury, N.C. He was 95. The grocery store chain announced the death. News reports in North Carolina said the cause was complications from colon cancer. Comment?

It's clear from the reaction to his passing that Ralph Ketner's legacy will survive for a long time to come. The well known co-founder of Food Town/Food Lion, may have been better known in his later years for his philanthropy. Comment?

After graduating from Farwell High School, Bud served with the United States Army from 1954 until 1956 earning both a sharpshooter and good conduct medal. He was married to Elaine Hose on September 10, 1953 in Angola Indiana. Comment?
