    Robert J. Danzig, who overcame difficult beginnings as a foster child during the Great Depression to become the head of Hearst Newspapers, has died, the company said. He was 85. Danzig lead the newspaper division at Hearst from 1977 to 1997, overseeing its growth to become the seventh largest newspaper company in the United States, the company said.

    Conway pleads guilty to one count of manslaughter in...

    Ahead of a trial already scheduled for Aug. 13, Michael J. Conway, 53, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter on Friday in the death of Vicki L. Miller, 56. In exchange for his plea, all other charges would be satisfied and Mr. Conway would serve a sentence of 13½ years, with five years of post-release supervision and waive his right to appeal. “We have had extensive conversations with the family of the victim,” said Assistant District Attorney Harmony A. Healy after laying out the deal.
