Teens accused of vicious assault named

Falcon Walsh, and Jacob Broderick, charged with assault against a man in the Havelock North Central business district, appeared in Hastings District Court. One of the two teens accused of viciously assaulting a man in Havelock North last month has pleaded guilty and both can can now be named.

Man beaten beyond recognition

Falcon Walsh, 17, pleaded guilty to injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he appeared in the Hastings District Court today. A severely injured 32-year-old man was found outside the clock tower public toilets on Te Aute Rd in Havelock North about 4am on August 3. The victim's family told Fairfax they barely recognised their beaten and bruised son and brother after the assault.

They may be young but they know how to rock - this year's Hawkes Bay contestants took the stage last night in this year's regional final of Rockshop Bandquest, the nationwide music contest for intermediate and primary students. Bandquest is in its fourth year as the younger sibling of Smokefreerockquest, and in the Hawkes Bay region attracted eleven keen entrants who competed at the Napier Municipal Theatre.

Logan Stone's six-monthly survey of retail space in the city centres, undertaken in August, confirms anecdotal evidence around the number of "for lease" signs appearing in the cities' empty shop windows.
