Yankee Stadium came in under $1B and they have six restaurants and a Planet Hollywood inside. Fix the existing span for gosh sakes. A little spit and sealing wax and a nice paint job should keep her hanging until at least 2017. By then, maybe we'll have those flying cars they promised us on the Jetsons and we won't need the damned bridge at all!

Maybe it's just a baby boomer thing, but I've been waiting a long time for my flying car. Doesn't anyone agree with me? I thought by now, we'd all be zipping around in our bubble topped flying cars and folding them up neatly into suitcases when we arrived at our destinations.

When they do build the new bridge, they should change it's name as well. I'll give you three reasons. 1. No one can pronounce Kozcuiszko properly. 2. A bridge, like a statue, is a monument to a person's memory. Once the original is gone it loses it's meaning. 3. There isn't a person of Polish descent living anywhere near it anymore to even give a damn. I would call it the "Billion Dollar Bridge We Had To Build Because We Never Did Get Any Flying Cars."

OK, let's say that the bridge is old and needs to be replaced. What chance would you rather take ... crossing the old span and praying it doesn't collapse the few times a year most area residents cross it? Or having a head-on, mid-air collision with one of those flying eighteen wheelers of the future and then plunging the 600 or so feet into the sea of muck and old car tires that loom below?

I propose naming it the Bloomberg Bridge after our three-term mayor.

Im sure it will be renamed after a Kennedy as most of NY is. Seeing Ted was the last to die it would seem fitting.

Plus, it's a bridge, even more fitting!

Build it in South Carolina - it'll cost half that when you don't have to pay for all the Union klingons and the "NY Factor."
