Is the low shot output by Oilers reason to believe their success is temporary? Consider this. Edmonton, Calgary and Atlanta, the only teams in the NHL averaging less than 25 shots per game, are each in the top 5 in goals per game in the league (over 3.5 g/g each).

A logical explanation: snipers. Between Penner and Brule, Edmonton has 9 goals on 28 shots (32.1%). Between Nystrom and Phaneuf, Calgary has 9 goals on 31 shots (29%), and with Kovalchuck alone, Atlanta has 9 goals on 27 shots (33%).

The Oilers and Flames, after 9 games each, with identical 6-2-1 records, are tied for 4th in overall NHL points at 13. It will be an exciting day for hockey in Alberta with their upcoming rematch on Saturday . Following the observed trend, we will see under 25 shots by both teams, at least 7 goals in total, and one tally from Penner or Brule (if he's ready by Sat), and another tally from Phaneuf or Nystrom.

Good post.

With the number of Oiler players in sick bay, Saturday's game will be good to gauge their wherewithal. BTW - how do so many Oilers fall sick when they are owned by a pharmaceutical company?

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Cancer

It's a sensational Full Moon in your sign, combined with a lunar eclipse! Holy cow! However, once you accept that even the best-laid plans could go awry today, you'll find that life is a lot easier to cope with. Try your hardest to take everything in your stride, even if you do have to rethink an arrangement at the eleventh hour. At least it's never a dull moment! Do your best not to let the tensions of the day spoil what promises to be some spectacular New Year's Eve celebrations. It will be an opportunity to let off steam. Have fun!
