Bathing beauties try to set swimsuit record

Pensacola bathing beauties are hoping to set a record this holiday for the most swimsuits in a photo shoot.

Hundreds of swimsuit-clad women on Saturday will spell out the name BELLA in the sand as part of a contest for Bella Magazine. They're hoping to set a Guinness World Record.

Another magazine set a similar record in Sidney, Australia last year when about 1,010 women in bikinis were photographed.

Man out-spits father, claims pit-spitting title

Brian 'Young Gun' Krause has out-spit his father to claim his seventh championship at the International Cherry Pit Spitting Championship in Eau Claire, Mich.

Krause's winning spit on Saturday was 56 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

That's 6 1/2 inches better than his father, second-place finisher and defending champion Rick 'Pellet Gun' Krause of Yuba City, Ariz, who spit 56 feet, 1 inch.

Thirty-year-old Rick Krause of Dimondale currently holds the Guinness World Record after spitting a pit 93 feet, 6 1/2 inches in 2003.

Old but still a swinger

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - At last, I was about to meet a star from Hollywood's golden era, one of the greats from the black-and-white films of the 1930s.

Keep your distance, I was told. Five feet back.

This is common with celebrities.

'He likes his space,' said aide Dan Westfall. 'He's very territorial.'

So old is this performer that he holds a Guinness world record.

But this legend gets no respect.

He has yet to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - rejected last month for the fifth consecutive year, for a grand total of seven times in 20 years.

Gay injured at Olympic trials

Tyson Gay tumbled to the ground at the start of his 200-meter quarterfinal heat at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials Saturday and had to be carted off the track.

Running in the seventh lane, Gay was speeding to the lead in the first turn, but on his 14th stride, something went wrong. He went airborne, fell, then laid on the ground in pain, grabbing his left thigh and grimacing.

About an hour after the injury, officials from USA Track and Field said Gay appeared to have pulled up with a severe cramp but was still being evaluated.
