With how China is treating the Tibet people, I agree that boycotting the Olympics 2008 would send a STRONG and needed message to the China government. If not the entire olympics, boycott the opening ceremonies!

Several athletes have already bailed out of the Olympics for health concerns. The air in China isn't fit for anyone.

China holding the olympics feels like the Games in Germany almost 70 years ago.

US Businesses:

Checked out the cost of shipping from china lately?
Bring your production back to america. F**k the unions, just pay competitive wages and benefits that suit the company and keep employees happy.

BOYCOTT the Olympics!

I, for one will be not watching a single minute.

China lies, cheats and builds up the military against our forces. Anyone Noticed this yet?

I have noticed the biggest problem is that we except china for what it is. Remember when the US would put people on trial for even the thought that they were communist. One Day china will make their move and try to take on the US. We have set ourselves up to be depended on china for most of our goods. Lead paint products could be an idea of the chinese government to poison our youth for a future assault. sorry for off topic I will not watch the games for the simple fact that I hate china.

CHINA will stamp out any and all opposition.

Boycotting the games never sounded like such a good idea. How can the world even think of going to China after what they are doing to Tibet.

And this is why Americans have the reputation of being "Rednecks" and "uneducated". Read the Communist Manifest if you ever have time or intelligence enough: it is more humanitarian than any Capitalist system can ever be. Look past the brainwashing and lack of information (american education system) to see past the fog and confusion: Communism is not what we were taught that it was. If anything, Capitalism is the most "evil" of all systems, where the strong prey on the weak, the many beat up on the few, etc.

As far as "what China is doing to Tibet"...you have GOT to be KIDDING me. Since the communist government took over in China, Tibet has had more roads and schools and public facilities built than at any other time in Tibet's history. The Dalai Llama and the ruling class of Tibet, on the other hand, care nothing for the regular people. Tibet's ruling classes have, for many centuries, practiced Slavery, and child molestation. Slavery: There is an entire class of servants in Tibet that are nothing more than slaves for the Dalai Llama and the priests. Read the Dalai Llama's biography and he will admit to this practice, which is accepted in Tibet. Yes, Tibetan government CONDONES slavery. Child Molestation: there is a special occupation for some child slaves. They are born into sexual slavery for the priesthood. Yes, Tibetan priests have sexual pleasures with male and female INFANTS.

Know the facts before you start criticizing something you know NOTHING about. Tibetan government is a farce, and they deserve nothing good at all.

Than move out of your berkeley flat and while your at it, go live over there if you think it is so great. I love when people knock the very freedoms they enjoy.

The USA isn't perfect, but it's better than chinese rule I'll bet you anyday.

Nobody said anything about China being "greater" than the United States, nor how one system is better than another. All that was said was that you guys are bashing another country and its system completely out of ignorance, saying shit that just makes all of us Americans look bad.

My argument still stands: Know the facts before you start criticizing something you know NOTHING about. You know why the Free Tibet movement here in the United States has been dying out over the years? Because people are finding out that Tibetan rule is grounded in slavery and sexual molestation, and cares nothing for the common people. Tibetan government only serves itself.

They didn't build the roads for the people of Tibet. They built them for the Chinese army to march in and take over.
They built the schools to brainwash the children of Tibet.

If you love Communism why don't you go live under a communist regime. You are a perfect fool.

I've been to China three times. It is a country that is continually striving to improve and has done a wonderful job at it. The people are very friendly and the value is incredible. You feel perfectly safe on any street at night. I would love to go back anytime. The history is unbelievable. I wouldn't boycott the olympics for anything.

I am sorry, my English is very bad. Therefore, I need the help of GOOGLE. To express some of my thoughts. I think no matter whether you feel ridiculous.
Facts speak louder than words. There are some misunderstanding on your discarded ideology of a political nature and newspapers, the media, to some political figures of automatic entry into the landfill, and an objective evaluation of China.
Although there are still many problems to resolve. But certainly not you are now discussing it.
A number of Chinese cities, air quality is not good. We live in there are feelings. This is our government now engaged in improving. I believe that your entrepreneurs to invest in China, will definitely not for money without terrible. Is that right?
Political naturalization political interests under the interests of the people should not be any misunderstanding and hostility.
Some problems take time to solve. On some issues, the need to feel in person!
China's network of more than 200 million people, these ugly political product, we do not care very little discussion. We only hope that the economy can continue to grow, to peace, the environment has improved.

Thank you for your posting. It is good that the Chinese people are finally sharing in some of the prosperiety they are working for. But until your government becomes democratic it is a huge TIME BOMB. Look what they are doing in Tibet.

We want the best for all free people of the world and welcome the Chinese to become free and democratic.

I noticed that Trader Joe doesn't have some Chinese products on its shelves today. I will avoid using as many as I can.

I think avoiding the Olympics this time will have a lot to do with continued fair treatment for Hong Kong and Macao, as well as peaceful and dignified negotiations with Taiwan.

While I respect the athletes, I am going to avoid watching the Olympics or buying from its sponsors this time.

With the human rights abuses within China, Tibet, Darfur, product recalls and the pollution, I think they should call off the games. The games are more about profit than sport anyways. True athletes may be out-competed by people on performance-enhancing drugs and the merchandising and product placement at the games and on the television coverage will be nauseating. Besides, it's always bothered me that host nations often lose money by hosting the games since they are so expensive to produce. Some of the countries could use that money for things other than building stadiums and venues they will likely never again be filled to capacity.

The feel-good stories are fewer and farther between these days.

China builds a new coal fired plant every week. They have absolutely no regard for the environment. Their disdain for environmental responsibility has brought strange new diseases like SARS and the Bird Flu to their homeland and that is just the beginning.

When you tell Olympic athletes it is a good idea to wear a mask when outside, it's time to change the VENUE of the games-IMMEDIATELY.

Boycott the Olympics. It's the right thing to do.
