Sex Education - Who's REALLY Responsible? (Video)
Many kids today learn about sex ed from other kids. Think "STD's and teen pregnancy by trial and error."
Who is REALLY responsible to make sure that our kids understand sex and all it's consequences? Parents? Teachers? Pastors? What do YOU think?

Most kids learn about sex from other kids. Girls usually learn about sex from their friends or from boys, who almost always tell us girls to have sex as early and as much as we possibly can. It's the boys who need to be taught to stop constantly asking teen girls to get laid.

It is the parents responsibility to talk to their kids, boys or girls and teach them respect to others over their own needs, and to open conversations with them to see that they know the facts and not just what they have heard. This job could be assisted by schools, since teen pregnancy is so high, also, kids need to understand that while their religious beliefs are very important, their health is more important, so they should be educated in birth control, regardless of religious beliefs.

I say the parents are responsible for their children's education it the pleasures and responsibiliies of sex. I feel that they should get into the mechanix of the sex act,(at an appropriate age)and at all ages, answers they can handle.
Tell them of the good and the bad of sexual behavior between two people of appropriate ages. Your women children need to know what having a "period" means, and your young men need to know what "nocturnal emmissions" are. So do as the song says, "Teach your children well..." and. GOOD LUCK, |

I agree it's the parents duty to teach their children what's really out there. No matter how uncomfortable it may be. |

Oh, for goodness sake, it's the parents job to give their children a solid base of information about sex.
I fondly remember asking my mother where babies come from when I was five. She did not blush, or act embarrassed, or try to brush off my question. Rather, she pulled a medical textbook off the bookcase, and we sat down together, while she explained, with illustrated pictures, the facts of life. No stories about the stork, or "When a mommy and a daddy love each other...." Just simple facts. I compared everything I heard from school and peers to the medical texts my mother kept around the house. When a friend believed she couldn't get pregnant if she had unprotected sex during her period, I was able to tell her the truth, with publications to back me up. With my own children, I follow my mother's example. |

I am always surprised to see how many parents make themselves to busy for their children, if your to busy what was the point of becoming a parent? That is one of the factors causing America to break up and fall apart, but I still have hope that there are more parents out there trying to do the right thing. |

Sex ed is the parents responsibility. However, since the parents want to give up that responsibility to big brother, their freedom to teach their kids about sex goes along with it.
Remember, if you don't teach your kids about sex, someone else WILL!!!! |

Yeah well no worries their I teach my daughter a few things that school doesn't cover, like how to spot a slime ball and ho w to do things for yourself. I am sure she'll be a hit in the school yard. She's ahead of the curve now, but then again I am basis. |

Yes! I agree...thats why I am not against abortion...imagine a 16 years old girl is raped and gets pregnant...how can she manages to have time for the baby since she has to study and work?! We should think very carefully before we decide to have a child..it is responsobility!!! |
I think I agree with this. I know when I was 13 or 14 I had it in my mind to get laid the first chance I got. There was "Peer pressure" indirectly because some of the other boys bragged how they had already had GF's and kissed girls, felt them up and some guys even claimed they already had intercourse. It was embarassing if you could not claim to have done the same. |

PS. this is long before they had things like "Rainbow parties" .. back then the girls WERE taught to resist the boy's advances ..(1970's)... back then the average age girls lost their virginity was about 17 .. now it is closer to 15. Back then a girl would not give a BJ until after she knew the guy and was likely to have intercourse first ... nowadays the young girls seem to think it is OK to give BJ's before having intercourse.

It's too bad that parents are so embarased sometimes to open up to thier kids. My parents said very little about it ... I learned more from my freinds. |

Since you are from Japan I wonder if your experince is different from ours? how much did your parents teach you, and at what age???? Did yuo have a brother? IF so was his experince different than yours, in terms of what the parents taught? |

no, don't have a brother...but I have a sister though :) Mum taught us about sex when we started our period...she didn't want us to have sex before 18...so both of my sister and I took Mum's advices... In our culture, the bond between parents and children is strong...of course, the negative side is some children will become less independent.. But I do think parents should give their children sex education in a mature and healithy way... Some kids who learnt sex from their friends or on the Internet tend to develop some funny and wrong ideas about sex and relationships... of course, if you have a alcholic Dad and a slutty Mother, you'd better off to learn on the Internet. |

Lol I think people epically here in the US think that people world wide have the same view on sex. I know more about Korea, of course than Japan, but I know some of the practices over there would be completely foreign to the US mind over here. As a whole the main stream of American sexuality is very prudish. I am sure some would argue the point, do you know any examples of how it's different? I think I heard one about how married men could have a mistress or girlfriend on the side and it's ok as long as he pays her a monthly allowance, instead of showing her love directly, and I think I heard that the other woman is often married herself. |

don't get me wrong..I am not saying that our sex education is better and the situation in Japan has been changing during the last 20 years.. Before, girls still stay virgin until they get married...but now young Japanese girls have sex and relationships/cohabitations before their marriage....some girls even keep 2 boyfriends at the same time (very open, I have to say..)..but most of girls will change their attitudes and stay faithful after marriage... I am from a very traditional Japanese family ....Dad is very strict...if I sleep with a boy without letting them know, he will break my leg, I guess... I don't know much about Koreans....BUt I have met some Korean people from the church...they are very traditional, too! talking about mistresses, rich guys all around the world could have mistresses...not only Asian guys or KOREAN guys... I guess some women got hurt deeply and won't trust guys again and they may go for the option of becoming a Mistress for someone (this is also a situation you call "marry herself")...some others mat marry money....some women from poorer countries even marry US Green cards...it is all different...depends on the person's upbringing, moral standards and his/her life values.... |
