Too hot in Tumcumcari for horses?!? It's no hotter there than Albuquerque or Hobbs.

And I agree that Tucumcari is a good location, strategically placed to suck the most money from stupid gambling Texans.

I wonder how many people in Raton (or Tucumcari) could even pass a background check for working in a casino, including a clean credit report and no criminal history. Not to mention regular drug testing.

My suspicion, all of the qualified employees already have jobs.

So a potential "racino" seems like a bum deal for local business owners. Assuming the casino pays more than the currently abundant jobs, the most qualified employees will leave their current jobs for the Casino. That leaves the truly local businesses fighting over the sludge at the bottom of the barrel...

"Trailer trash and proud of it." That's sad, but typical. From a long line of proud trailer trash no doubt. Heck, there are probably three proud generations living in your trailer now.

Do you ever have moments of introspect where you contemplate life's choices that got you where you are today, the missed opportunities, irresponsibility, and complete screw-ups?

Why don't you at least take a moment on your computer, a WalMart Special no doubt, to share your views on the racetrack? Otherwise, don't you have something better to do than trolling on news forums? Weed-whack the dirt and weeds that you call a yard, finish off the 24-pack of cheap beer, and scream obscenities at the brood of bastard children...

Ah, a life to be proud of.

I FOR ONE COULD PASS THE BACKGROUND CHECK CREDIT CHECK AND ANY OTHER CHECKING THEY WANT TO DO... THERE ARE ALOT MORE QUALIFIED PEOPLE IN TUCUMCARI THAN YOU ARE AWARE OF. MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE CHOOSING TO LIVE IN TUCUMCARI FROM OTHER STATES, WHY CAUSE IT IS A GREAT LITTLE COMMUNITY, WE JUST NEED MORE JOBS IN THIS TOWN, IM FOR THE RACINO, I THINK TUCUMCARI COULD USE IT.

I do very well in life and have no regrets. My views on the racetrack do not matter. You seem to have enough to go around. As ar as my family they all have their own trailers. There is no brood of bastard children to scream at. I was smart enough to stop with just one which we raisd well. The way you talk you probably are a bastard. As far as trolling on news forums I think you were here first.Probably every time you come out from beneath your bosses desk to wipe your mouth.

You could be right - I haven't been to Tucumcari in several years. The location is good, that's for sure. Raton is currently experiencing an economic boom, with more than enough jobs available for the current population. So any new businesses, like a Racino, would have to bring in their own people - like many of the gas field companies do - or lure people away from local companies.

And if, as you describe, Tucumcari has a surplus of qualified people, that's a huge advantage over Raton. It's nearly impossible for Raton businesses to find employees who have been to school, have not had a DUI, aren't on parole or probation, can pass a drug test, and are financially responsible. That's based on my own first-hand experiences while hiring locally.

if is not too hot why do they propse a spring meet. raton is 10-15 degrees cooler at 6am every morning. The Raton water and air quality blows away all current and other proposed sites including tucumcari. Chalmers made mistakes in proposal first was 48 when they started then bumped after Ratons proposal. Raton will draw from 5 states not just Texas-Tx,Ok,Ks fans would not go to anywhere as hot as their own climate for a break in summer.
The racehorses need Raton!
The fans will come to Raton!
Raton can run when there needs to be a meet summer!
Raton has many years of racing history not one short 10 day meet many decades ago.
So what if the seed money is coming from Canada that is even better as it will turn over 7 times in new mexico.besides this have you seen the Phase tucumcarei forgot to mention about Raton"s proposal a cool 100 million $$$ in the second phase of build out. More fluff Chalmers said they had farmers lined up for the horse manure-That is fluff as the manure must be composted for it to be any good-in favt if you research it it actually has a detrimental effect on production for several years if it is not composted out.

"this statement is not really true."

I stand by my statement regarding the low quality of available workers in the Raton/Trinidad area.~Almost~ every single person, of the dozens we hired, have had one or more of the following:

No education / illiterate (drop out rate is close to 50%)
Fail the drug screening
No drivers license
Past DUIs, so can't get on company insurance
Ongoing legal problems that interfered with work hours - community service, probation, court dates, etc.
Miserable financial history
No telephone or answering machine
No transportation
No-show for work
Thieving of company property

Remember the downtown street renovation a few years back, a company from Albuquerque that planned to hire locally? As I recall, 75% of the locals flunked the drug test on the first day!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, perhaps the Racino could successfully draw employees away from existing local businesses. Or else they'll need to bring their own people...

Man...You're just full of hateful things to say, were not the only ones trolling around news forums, if i'm not mistaken, aren't you doing the same thing? LOL I tell you some people just have never learned that old saying "If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all." You're even getting off the subject of the racino.

What are the housing options in Tucumcari for a single professional or young family, the type of people who would come for Racino jobs?

Lots of places for sale in Raton now, and the prices are so low that anyone with a job can buy. May be a big Plus for Raton? But rental opportunities are scarce...
