Deputies have placed more than 5,000 illegal aliens on the path to deportation since 2006

Sheriff Chipp Bailey gave an update on the controversial program that allows his deputies to place jailed illegal immigrants into removal proceedings, known as 287(g), during an immigration forum at Central Piedmont Community College.

But the sheriff defended the program as members of the audience questioned whether the program unfairly targets nonviolent offenders.

"Whether it's a violent offense or not is not relevant," he said.

Actually the title caught my eye......a path to deportation is refreshing instead of the normal "path to citizenship!"

Being in this country illegally means deportation. Great job Sheriff!

You have Chipp Bailey and Joe Arpaio doing their jobs. It seems Chipp has some support from local politicians. Joe is on his own. It does seem though, if you enforce the laws on the books right now, it is effective without any new rules or a rewiring of the old system. Isn't there a national Sheriffs convention? This guy should give seminars on how to enforce the law.

Unfortunately you're almost correct about Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sadly, many local politicians here in Phx are pandering to the "hispanic votes" so they openly call Joe a racists and other horrible names. Idiots like Phx Mayor Phil Gordon are but a few. However the Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas (District attorney in some areas) is 100% behind Sheriff Joe. Sheriff Joe arrests the illegals and Andrew Thomas prosecutes them. A law enforcement marriage made in heaven. If every law enforcement officer was like Sheriff Joe and Sheriff Chipp an every prosecutor was like Andrew Thomas, we would rid of the illegal cock roaches.
