Arpaio: Gov. pulled funds intended to fight illegal immigration

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said May 13 that money the Legislature had intended for him to use to fight illegal immigration has been pulled by Gov. Janet Napolitano in retaliation for his tough enforcement of immigration laws.

Arpaio called out Napolitano, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, and Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox for conspiring to pull more than $1 million from a joint-funding grant created for the Department of Public Safety and his office.

"We're going to fight to get it back. But if we don't, I'm not going to change anyway," he said, promising to send his deputies to Mesa to patrol for illegal immigrants.

The funding stream, according to a May 12 executive order by Napolitano, was redirected with the intention of helping the state follow up on thousands of felony arrest warrants.

Arpaio was joined by House Speaker Jim Weiers and Mesa Rep. Russell Pearce, who criticized the governor's decision as an illegal violation of the separation of powers. Weiers said the Legislature had specifically allotted $1.2 million to help Arpaio's efforts.

Clearly most in AZ Government want to protect the illegals and the Hispanic votes. This is an outrage. Wonder what the folks in Sun City and Sun City West think of this latest attemp to stop illegal immigration? By the way the U.S. mail goes to her office! I doubt that she'd be willing to accept out of state e-mail messages. Perhaps Lou Dobbs will get back on track and report his Broken Borders segment instead of appearing on the political segments? He's such a good voice for the U.S. citizens.

You may want to check the legality of this, before sending money. The last thing Sheriff Joe needs is more crap. You know "Well he was bought by individuals wanting him to arrest illegals." It's just a thought.....

Thanks for the thought. I just want our laws enforced and thinks it's stinks that the funding that was earmarked spicifically for him by the legislature is being diverted by Napolitano.

I e-mailed his office probably a year ago, asking if they needed financial assistance. At that time they did not, but that may have changed now.

We need to clone Arpaio ... about 100,000 times.
We have lost hope in finding any help from our federal government to combat the illegal invasion... We can't afford to lose the state's initiative. As states like Arizona put pressure on illegals, they will migrate to more friendly states, who must then defend themselves from the assault on their social services, and initiate tougher imigration law enforcement policies. I see the states falling in line like dominos ... until even California and San Fransisco must cry "No Mas" under the ensuing crush.
