Islam 'recognizes homosexuality' | The Jakarta Post

Full story: www.thejakartapost.com

Homosexuals and homosexuality are natural and created by God, thus permissible within Islam, a discussion concluded here Thursday. Moderate Muslim scholars said there were no reasons to reject homosexuals under Islam, and that the condemnation of homosexuals and homosexuality by mainstream ulema and many other Muslims was based on narrow-minded interpretations of Islamic teachings.

Wouldn't that be nice, but considering I just recently brought this topic up with Muslims on the Islam board here at Topix and was repeatedly referred to as being 'mentally ill' because I did not want homosexuals treated with anything but equality and tolerance.........forgive me if I doubt this ruling does not actually represent Islam.

Although, with all the disagreements Muslims have between them, this will be interesting if Muslims actually participate on this topic (and in English..........

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world and it's a secular country. Other muslilm nations should emulate it's governance.

There's a bunch of comments by Muslims on the site the article came from. It's pretty much what you said and is an interesting debate to read for sure. It would seem, judging by those commenting on the site that there is about the same level of contention in their community as seen everywhere else. However, the anti-gay Muslims commenting there appear to have a rhetoric that makes the even the worst internet trolls pale in comparison.

It's nice to see a few reasoning Muslims, just as there are a few reasoning Christians. Problem is that they seem to be a small majority of the total number of ACTIVE adherents (discarding the people who don't go to church/mosque or are the revolving door -- in on Xmas/Ramadan, out on Epiphany/Eid -- variety). If you throw away inactives, I'll bet people who can truly reason and think independently only make up 10% of total adherents.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Pisces

You're lacking in energy and resources today, which will soon slow you down and make you feel as though you're wading through treacle. The only way to cope is to have as many breaks as possible, and not to set yourself impossible goals that you could never hope to meet. You're also very susceptible to the criticisms or put-downs of others, but do your best to ignore them.
