The church as an organization cant do these things but the members of the church can do as they please as citzens.
Stupid Sheeples RAnnoying wrote:
<quoted text>According to th IRS Section 501(c)(3) includes two
stipulations: first, no substantial part of the organization's activities may consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation;3
and second, the organization may not
participate in political campaigning in opposition to, or on behalf of, any candidate for public office.
"Substantial" legislative activities jeopardizes its tax-exempt status. The IRS interprets "legislative activities" as
attempts to influence legislation by participation in lobbying for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing federal, state, or local legislation; or advocating the adoption or rejection of legislation.
In short, only one reported court decision has found a religious organization in violation of section501(c)(3), HOWEVER more recent case, the Court reasoned that since tax exemptions are "'a matter of grace that Congress can, of course, disallow as it chooses'... Congress is not required by the First Amendment to subsidize lobbying." In so doing, the Court apparently viewed First Amendment rights, such as
free speech and religious expression, as less important than the government's tax policy.
In other words....there are no fail-safe ways to guarantee that a church or religious organization can be both involved in the legislative process and remain tax-exempt.

but yet the churches CONTINUALLY act as a whole to try and use their force for legal issues.

the 30 million dollars the MORMON church used for prop 8 for example,.....

asking their sheep while during SERVICES to donate money for the cause....and now they are being investigated. bet their attitude changes real quick when they lose their tax exempt status...
lying hypocrites.

How, exactly, is anything being "forced" onto you inregards to other people getting legal equality?

If I have equality, you are denied nothing. There is no "forcing" of anything onto anyone.

If your agenda is forced into me, I am denied equal legal protections in my own country.

So how is it that you can support something that has no effect on you, yet denies equality from your fellow citizens?

Are you asking why is the Catholic Church getting involved in a moral issue like marriage??
We're talking about a LEGAL issue, not a moral or religious one. You apparently can't tell the difference between the two?

No one is contesting the Catholic Church's right to define marriage as it sees fit for its own participants. What people are objecting to is the church using tax-free dollars to force its morals onto those that don't belong to their belief system.

You don't see a problem with that?? It's exactly the same thing you've been bleating about and accusing "the gays" of doing (even though we're not). You don't see a hypocrisy there??

So the sanctity of marriage is not a moral issue??
Is adultery and divorce a moral issue? Don't see the churches screaming to have tougher laws on adultery and divorce.

But it's lose-lose situation with the anti- gay marriage people. Even if the people's veto passes gay marriage will be re-legalized by Maine Legislature or another referendum.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!

What I find interesting is that most high school educated folks know that it is unconstitutional for the majority to vote away the rights of a minority. ALL of the "defense of marriage" laws will eventually be overturned. Then what will you social conservatives do?....start stealing food from the poor? It seems to me that everything Jesus taught, these social conservatives do just the opposite. WATCH OUT! The next thing they might go after is DIVORCE! Too late....most of them are already on wife #3 at least.

Yes, they have benevolent causes, but at what cost? Through subversion they do good. Through clenched teeth they spread love and joy and through deception they practice charity. The only truth they are out to convey is one they invented. The Catholic Church is an ulcer on the butt of humanity. Does anyone really know their history? They practically erased the entire history of the Mayan people of Mexico and Central America in order to convert them to "Christianity." They murdered millions in their conversion processes. Remember the Christian Crusades? How many did they "convert" or "Kill?" The Catholic Church murdered and tortured anyone convicted of trying to translate the original Biblical Canon from Latin to any other language. The Catholic Church held the manuscripts and thus held "The Word of God" for themselves and dictated it to the masses. It was, I am sure, "loosely translated, as needed." The Catholic Church has enforced their agenda through aggressive tactics, brain-washing, murder, abuse and hate-- often violating their claim to Godliness. They still do.

Read about the real Uncle Tom.

Josiah Henson (June 15, 1789 – May 5, 1883) was born into slavery in Charles County, Maryland. He escaped to Ontario, Canada in 1830, and founded a settlement and laborer's school for other fugitive slaves at Dawn, near Dresden in Kent County.

At the time of his arrival, Ontario was known as the Province of Upper Canada (U.C.), becoming the Province of Canada in 1841, then Ontario in 1867, all within Henson's lifetime there.

Henson's autobiography, The Life of Josiah Henson, Formerly a Slave, Now an Inhabitant of Canada, as Narrated by Himself (1849), is widely believed to have inspired the title character of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin.

There lies the big difference between our movements.

Those children were discriminated against based sorly on the color of their skin, which is something they cannot wash off or bleach like Michael Jackson.

Gays on the other hand can and still do hide their sexual orientation and can walk unchallenged in today's world which is still controlled by white folks.

Tell me, oh black one, why is it that you only seem to care only about the civil rights of blacks? Having experienced discrimination, one would think you would find it abhorrent in any situation, but you and your fellow blacks in California certainly don't think so. And Obama has done nothing for gays, despite his campaign promises. Why is it? Can you answer that question, or are you gonig to go on in your little "black children" routine?

Whites control the world really? Can you name me the last white man/woman to rule China? Thought so maybe you should think before you type out racist remarks.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Scorpio

Self-worship is easy and obvious, today. The real prize is when you turn from the mirror to see that others think just as highly of you. Take in all this love and amazement, and store some away for lean times in the future. Someone may give you an unexpected compliment later in the day, but don't let them know that it caught you off guard. After all, you still have your reputation as an egomaniac to uphold!
