Most gay pupils bullied in school - youth service

MOST LESBIAN, gay, bisexual or transgender second-level students have suffered homophobic bullying , the Belong To youth service has told an Oireachtas Education Committee. Research involving over 1,100 LGBT participants, funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE), found that half were subject to verbal abuse in school because of their orientation, 40 per cent were verbally threatened by their peers, 34 per cent heard homophobic comments by staff and one-quarter were physically threatened by their peers. Sandra Gowran, director of education policy with the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (Glen), said homophobic bullying was pervasive in schools, regardless of whether they had a particular religious ethos or whether they were co-educational or single sex.

In civilized countries, this should stop: zero tolerance of bullying! Where is the educational leadership?

It is people who think like you do that are responsible for kids being beaten, killed and raped in school.

A group of adults in a school heard a 13 year old boy screaming while 3 other boys, a 13 yr old and 2 14 yr olds, raped him with a hockey stick and did nothing.

Their victim didn't even openly identify as gay.

If you honestly think that a child between 12 & 17 is "weird or perverted" simply because they are GLBT, then you should seek serious mental health help because YOU are the one that is sick.
