Maine Marriage Equality Foes Say They Have the Needed Signatures to Overturn Same-Sex Marriage Law

Full story: lezgetreal.com

In an effort lead by Maine’s Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, the anti Marriage-Equality organizers of a people’s veto campaign to repeal Maine’s new same-sex marriage law say they have collected enough signatures to get the measure on the November ballot. Stand for Marriage Maine, a coalition which includes the Diocese of Portland and other church groups, said today it has collected more than the 55,087 signatures needed for a people’s veto question, according to a statement from the group.

I hope they collected enough signatures to get their tax-exempt status revoked. Could be a boon for the state and federal tax revenues! Imagine the property tax the state could collect!

Tax them NOW!!!!!!!!!!

From the same people who let their priests rape the handiest targets - the alter boys. Why - the situation is exactly analogous to prison rape = sex strved macho's establishing the pecking order.

And why did the church let this go on for decades, moving the guilty from one parish to another, instead of dragging them in chains down to the prosecuters =

There is only one possible explanation - the hierarchy also is guilty of their vile crimes.

And btw, this is the same church that gave the world the hatred of the Jews, Jesus own people. Which the maniac catholic Hitler, who grew up in totally catholic austria leveraged to win election.

And the result was 50 million deaths and the Holoaust.

All in the name of God.

Fine. Now let's collect signatures to prohibit the marriage of Jews, Hindus and atheists. They don't believe that Jesus Of Nazareth is the Savior like the Catholics do right ?

"From the same people who let their priests rape the handiest targets - the alter boys."

HOMOSEXUALS infiltrated the Catholic church and it was homosexual males that molested and raped those boys. Girls were not abused. This was a calculated effort from gays to destroy the church. The crimes were sexual crimes committed by gays and the church has suffered from these gay priests actions.

I find it interesting that the straight priests did not molest girls in mass numbers like the homosexual priests did. This is not a catholic issue it is a gay male male issue.

That's right Charles, don't ever blame your church for anything. It's always someone else, isn't it, Charles. Do you people ever stop blaming everyone else for you foolish obsession with all things sexual? Religion is not the answer, it is and always has been the problem. Your last pope was the patron saint of child molesters, Charles. The current is a self-hating gay nazi.

Petitions need to circulated to REVOKE THE PORTLAND DIOCESE of their tax exempt status. NO CHURCH has any right to influence politics.

The Morons, oops, Mormons, are/were being investigated by the State of California for their part in Prop H8...not sure if the investigation has concluded yet or is still ongoing.

REVOKE THE TAX EXEMPT STATUS of **any** religious group who engages in politics.

I guess this is what I don't get about the American way... why is something like this even allowed to be voted on? This clearly is a human rights issue and should not be subject to popular opinion polls. The courts and legislators should be able to decide this definitively and not have election ballots force revisiting the right. America needs to update it's democratic processes if it wishes to continue to be considered the land of the "free".

Men who sexually abuse pre-pubescent boys are much more likely to to hetero than gay. Gay men are attracted to men, not boys. So if anypne "infiltrated" the Catholic church, it was sex-starved, fem-phobic hetero men with issues.

First thing, have you ever heard of "alter GIRLS" ? Second thing, yes there are homosexuals that molest, doesn't mean they all do, so it isn't a
homosexual issue any more than it is a heterosexual issue when girls are molested. It is simply due to a sick perversion that was allowed to occur by the church, regardless of sexuality.
When you put someone in the position of power ( priest ), demand celebacy ( even priests are human ) and allow them free access to powerless children ( irresponsible on the parent's and churches part ). It is no wonder that perverts would be attracted to the position.
SHAKE YOUR HEAD AND USE YOUR BRAIN!!!! With people like you in the church, it is no wonder children are victimized. Especially if you are naive enough to think it is a certain type of person that molests. Pedophiles exist in all walks of life. Generally more often between heterosexual males and female children. Of course now it is coming out that there are, women, firemen, police officers, government officials church officials and others victimize children.( In your mind it is probably that mystical evil power that homosexuals have that has caused this to occur )
In closing, I really hope that if you have children, that you aren't as stupid about who you trust or protect them from. It isn't homosexuals you need to be concerned about, it is perverts.

If we had the "faith-based" tax benefits that the RC church has, we could be more effective ourselves. When is the Government going to start taxing churches that turn political? The RC church has spent 1.5 billion on paying off the victims of its pedo-crimes, and yet she still has billions more to spend on frivolous causes.

I think that this is great for the state of Maine. I look forward to the November elections. It is interesting how it is spun, in the media, that unnatural unions are embraced by all, yet when given an opportunity, people speak out and stand up for traditional marriage. It will be interesting!

You know what, it very well could. The thing that I learned is that just because a government, whether it be state, local, or federal, allows something to be doesn't make it morally right.

So, the fact that immoral people pass immoral laws has already sunk into me. It also really will never hinder a true believer in Christ of doing what he/she is called to do which is sharing the gospel of Christ with morally sinful people.

True christians have shared the gospel of Christ under far worse persecution from their government and it hasn't stopped them to this day. People in the homosexual lifestyle are being saved from the penalty of their sins and are being made born-again.

So, whether or not Maine, which is a beautiful state, allows this within their government really isn't the issue to the true believer. We pray for the leaders, no matter how morally corupt they are, and trust that the only True God changes their sinful nature.

Till then, November should be interesting!

You've got some of it right, Shadow. True believers are to obey the commandments of Mark 12:28-34, yet there is a difference between God's commandments and His GOSPEL.

All true believers are commanded to share His gospel which is that you can not work your way to heaven. Only through the long awaited Messiah, Jesus the Christ, can your sins be forgiven.

Second, the "judging" that the Word of God is talking about is the self-righteous judgement that seeks to condemn people and give them no chance to enter His presence, as demonstrated by the pharisees.

I don't place people in hell, simply proclaim what the Word of God says about the true nature that lies within man. And that mankind, whether in the homosexual lifestyle, adulterous lifestyle, pedophilia lifestyle, etc. must repent and seek God because He is so good to forgive you of your sins.

It honestly is the kindest thing that you could ever do for someone.

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
