Pat Robertson: Marriage Equality in Maine - The end of the world as we know it?

Responding to news last week that Maine’s Governor John Baldacci had signed a Marriage Equality law, Televangelist Pat Robertson, said… “We haven’t taken this to its ultimate conclusion. You got polygamy out there. How can we rule that polygamy is illegal when you say that homosexual marriage is legal? What is it about polygamy that’s different? Well, polygamy was outlawed because it was considered immoral according to biblical standards. But if we take biblical standards away in homosexuality, what about the other? And what about bestiality and ultimately what about child molestation and pedophilia? How can we criminalize these things and at the same time have constitutional amendments allowing same-sex marriage among homosexuals. You mark my words, this is just the beginning in a long downward slide in relation to all the things that we consider to be abhorrent.” Robertson has also predicted that the end of the world was coming in November or October 1982, that storms or possibly a tsunami would hit America’s coastline destroying millions of lives sometime in 2006 and that “mass killings” were to come during 2007, as a result of a terrorist nuclear attack on the United States.

Good old Pat. He has no credibility these days. Sure, he still spouts his rhetoric but the real question is: who cares? After some of the choice things he has said in the past, it would not surprise me if his fan base has decreased a bit.
This is the same guy who advised a married woman, who had a creepy stalker type coworker try to kiss her in the parking garage, from telling her husband about it... because it might make him mad and incite violence. AND? What about her safety?
I truly think the man speaks because he loves the sound of his own voice but doesn't like his brain interferring when using it.

I suppose I should elaborate just a bit. The woman felt bad because she felt as if she ahd cheated on her husband... but she felt scared too because the co-worker wouldn't take the hint that she didn't want to do anything with him. I'm thinking that if he is persistant enough to try and kiss her even after she's told him she wasn't interested... well, in a dark parking garage... one no too many... hmmm... you do the math.
(I believe he also advised her against reporting the harrassment to the boss because the other guy had yet to do anything wrong... obviously Pat hasn't heard of this little concept called "prevention")

Pat Robertson's claptrap never ends.

One of the most common logical fallacies (erroneous illogical assertions) is called the "slippery slope." Not only is Robertson employing this faulty reasoning, but he's using the words right out of the textbook example of it...

"this is just the beginning in a long downward slide in relation to all the things that we consider to be abhorrent."

It's just nonsense to claim that recognition for same sex marriage causes us to careen uncontrollably and inevitably into polygamy, beastiality, and pedophilia. In fact, the opposite is true.

We didn't accidentally stumble into same sex marriage. We've fought for our civil rights for over forty years, and we're still not all the way there. What began the public fight in this country was when police in NYC repeatedly harassed patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar.

It seems to me that until some polygamist bars, beastiality bars, and pedophile bars pop up, and get harassed by police, we're still a very long way seeing people who advocate those things standing up publicly to demand an end to discrimination against them.

What would gain if you have all the world's glory and loose your very soul. This world is soon to end. When? Only God knows when. All I know that when a believer dies, he goes home to heaven to be with their heavenly Father. That is awesome! Where are you going when you die? Remember, you will not live on earth forever, your soul will live forever. Either heaven or hell!

All the biblical patriarchs had several wives and even more concubines (wives without papers)so what's his problem with plural marriage? Did he skim over those passages in the bible?

The patriarchs and others also had slaves. The bible has rules and regulations on where you can get slaves and how to treat therm. Is he pro slavery too?

Everytime you judge others as though you have the ability to see into our souls you are mocking God. Everytime you ignore Jesus' command to love your neighbor as yourself, you are rejecting Jesus Christ.

Everytime you continue to live in your sin of homosexual you don't want God to judge you! God have His true evangelist, teachers, prophets, pastors, that have been preaching that homosexuality is an abomination and all you do is REJECT HIS WORD. It doens't me that we don't love you! We do love you, and this passion driven in us is called the Love of God that through us is sending you the warning of damnation of hell if homosexuals don't repent. God love the sinner but hates the SIN OF HOMOSEXUALITY. Preaching the Word of God is an act of God's love. God commanded that we preach this "Good New of the Gospel".
