MYTE - Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment

MYTE stands for Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment and is a group that is "committed to improving the quality of life for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth by providing a safe, affirmative environment for peer interaction and by enlisting informed, productive and positive role models." The group is open to LGBTQ youth and straight allies between the ages of 13-18

This is inspiring. My wife and I are soon to meet a 13 year old lesbian couple from my daughter's 8th grade class. I told my daughter to ask them if they would like to meet us because we'd like to mentor them if they would. They agreed and are both very happy and excited that we asked. This reaction surprised my daughter because these girls both give off the illusion of having a tough exterior. My daughter said "I never realized Tiffany and Rosa were so sweet until now." That in itself says alot about mentoring and we haven't even started. The fact that we WANT to is helping them already.
