The long-cited figure for divorces between straight couples is around 50 percent; according to figures from the United Kingdom, however, only about one percent of marriages between same-sex couples have so far ended in divorce.

Maybe this is why the Bible belters haven't wanted to open up marriage to gays - they are actually afraid of being shown up

What these statistics also do not show is how many of these same sex couples had been living as a married couple for years before the laws changed or before they decided to proceed with the official ceremony.

I'd be curious about Canadian statistics. Same-sex marriage has been legal in some provinces for five years.

We also need more time to study this. The second wave of marriages--say, three years after it's legalized--will say more about the stability of same-sex marriages than any statistics that are available today. In the long run, I suspect that gays and lesbians are more like heterosexuals than they are different.

i haven't seen anything regarding the divorce rate among Canadian couples, but the recent Williams Institute report on the future of marriage equality did take a look divorce/disalution rates from the states that allow marriage/civil unions/domestic partnerships and found that except for the occassional spike due primarily to changes in the laws, the rates are around that of opposite sex couples divorcing, roughly 2-3% anually...

I think this is perhaps because, having had to face a fact about themselves that is rejected by society, perhaps gay people are more open and loving, less likely to lie to thier partners. But then, this is simply my observation.

Perhaps the divorce rate is approaching zero because they die of STD's before they reach divorce court! I only hope they repented their perverse and deviant ways first.
The hatred seething from you is palpable. Is that an example of your religion? Is lying about other people something you aspire to in everything? What a sad man you must be.

I think that has a lot to do with it, and I suspect that over time the statistics will normalize and divorce rates will be similar.

And that's fine.

You might wish it to be so, but loving, committed monogamous couples are not at great risk of STD's, gay or straight.

They are at high risk for secure productive lives though, thank goodness.

Now why would someone who calls himself "Righteous_1" and whose tag line is "Can't we all just get along" spread mean nasty lies about entire groups of people? It seems to me you're trying to foment strife between people.

Could it be you're possessed not by righteousness but by evil?

I guess it is now my turn, I have been married to men 2x and am now with a wonderful woman. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren, one of whom I am raising. My partner and I are as married as any other couple, just not before a judge until the laws do change. We are honest, loving people and I have no idea how you relate std's to the gay community. That's like saying your ignorant because of your faith.
If you were a true believer of God then you wouldn't be criticising anyone for their beliefs or their way of life. Because true honest believers know that they are to be accepting and loving of all people just as God is. He does not judge and neither should you. I say you need to read and learn more before you make comments like that.

You should shorten that sentence:

self-righteous-1 is disgusting.
