The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival is back for its 33rd year

Summer getting boring out there in the heartland? Does it feel, at times, like it's all just too much and you need to get away?

So how do forty performances, a film festival, an artisan/craft show and a full roster of workshops, parties and dances are all slated for one glorious week in August on 650 lush green acres in wilds of Northern Michigan sound good to you?

I agree, never been because of the cost. You can sped one day at Ohio's for a fraction of the price and have a great time!

That has always bothered me, that and the segregated camps for boys I hear about. Hasn't tempted me to go, but then camping to me is a hotel w/o room service.

Are they allowing ALL women in, or only some, the way they have in years past?

Well the boys over 5 are segregated and apparently boys over 10 are not welcome at all (from what I could read).

http://www.michfest.com/festival/sprouts.htm

From a MWMF board, apparently there's some de facto segregation going on. One head of the festival, Lisa Vogel says there was never a formal policy against Transwomen. Bull.

There is a camp down the road called Camp Trans.

Let me say, as a Lesbian, these people who spell Womyn give me gas.

And to use the term Womyn born womyn gives me gas and a pain. Whether a woman is born physically and mentally a woman or only mentally a woman due to some glitch, it is DISGUSTING, that a female would reject another female.

I cannot express my revulsion with these camping, big sister is watching you, PC/Nazi wretches w/o getting banned for inappropriate vocab.

Do they want to be like Republican men with their entitlements and feelings of superiority?

Find a cheaper party with so much to offer--besides the company of Womyn--I dare you! Won't miss you there!

This is to you or Das either one. I think that both of you know me well enough that you know that I accept people as who they are. I just don't understand something and I feel comfortable asking either one of you.

Since I have been posting on the forum I have seen differences between gay men and lesbians, lesbians and MTW trans and between trans and intersexed. I just don't understand why there is such a division. It would seem to me that each of you have suffered enough pain from the straight world that you would not turn on what I would consider those that are part of the same community.

I know that this only goes on between a small segment of the GLBT community but it does exist. I have even heard fights go on about the sequence of the letters.

It is very confusing for us supporters out here that are willing to stand beside each of you.

My loving sister you said a mouthful. I hardly feel qualified to speak about the trans and intersexed because there is so much divisiveness on both sides that the Gay/Lesbian world and the trans don't really interact on a personal level; at least in Indiana, I hope its different elsewhere.

As Lesbians my partner and I do not engage in the Lesbian community all that often because of the landmines.

Both of us had girlfriends in the past who rejected our male friends. This was so off putting that we basically have our Gay friends and our straight female friends. And believe me I get why some women become separatists but I see that as something rather to be fought against, like racism rather than embraced as a way of life.

My partner has a few pals but no one as close as our Gay Husbands.:)

Our Gay male friends are much more welcoming and accepting of all differences. And frankly they find us refreshingly unthreatened by men.

I don't know what the answer is. All I can do is make sure to work at expressing that rejection of others is unacceptable and keep myself as open as I can to whatever experiences come my way.

Thanks for your support Junker, I know your son is a lucky lucky kid.

I understand the cost is alot but for all the concerts classes and food that is furnished its about right. How many places can you go to concerts for a week, party all night and they provide the food plus other activities? The one problem I do have is with the women of color segregating them selves. We our all sisters and have a great deal to offer among any race. Still a great time.

I understand about the cost but a vacation is a expense where ever you go. Plus you really do get alot for your money. Where else can you party for a week long, attend a variety of workshops and have your meals provided the whole time? If you stay at a hotel its 59$ to 79$ a night, no food included, no entertainment included.Price is about right if you think about how much you pay for 1 concert. The only problem I have is with the women of color segregating themselves. We are all sisters and have a great deal to offer one another.

If you hate the festival so much, I'm really glad you aren't going to be there. Beyond that, can you give it a bloody rest already?
