A study finds that countries whose people enjoy more freedom tend to be happier. A study finds that countries whose people enjoy more freedom tend to be happier. Who knew? The legalization of gay marriage might make Californians happier. At least that's what a new study based on surveys of 350,000 people in nearly 100 countries suggests. No, the authors aren't gay activists, nor do they seem to be peddling any particular political agenda. But in their search to discover which countries are happier than others and why, these scholars -- led by University of Michigan political scientist Ronald Inglehart -- have stumbled on one pretty fundamental conclusion about what people want out of life: freedom. Yes, that's right, more or less the same thing you were celebrating Friday by scarfing down hamburgers next to the pool in your brother-in-law's backyard. How exactly, you ask, is gay marriage connected with "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"? It's simple. more

Who are you to say it's ok to give gay relationships a chance? LOL For that matter who are you to say whether another can use a word you don't own to begin with? |

For what it's worth, Jeff, I accept your apology. Others will need to do it for themselves. We all make mistakes. I learned a long time ago that it's better not to judge others because they in turn will judge you. If religions are true, then none of us have the right to judge others, as whatever deity is the center of that religion does the true judging anyway. I also found that most people who spout religious dogma tend to forget that one little sentence that is credited to Jesus... "Judge not, lest ye be judged." |

1 Uh, Jeff... heterosexual marriage was deep in the crapper long before this issue came to national attention. 50% of all first marriages end in divorce in under two years. 60% of all second marriages fail. And why is that? Because the high-and-mighty righteous heterosexuals are every bit as likely to make bad decisions, for the wrong reasons, and marry when they shouldn't. They are pressured by society to get married and raise kids--which is irresponsible in the first place, considering the problem of overpopulation. Not everyone is built for a "whole life" relationship, and so they should not be socially encouraged and pushed into marriages that are doomed to fail. The problem is not the small issue of LGBT marriage--it's the larger issue of people having unrealistic pressures and expectations revolving around marriage. |

2 Move to Iran, then. It might take 20 years more for this backward, talibangelical freak ladden country, but will get marriage equality. In the meantime I don't know why gays and lesbians getting married will all of a sudden make you not love your spouse anymore and thus destroy your marriage. |

1 If Christ were the son of God, and he indeed came back, he'd be pissed off at all his "bible belt" lemmings who got the entire message wrong. Anyone with even a 6th grade education can see the examples Christ was setting by the company he kept. So what does that tell us about biggots? ;) |

1 This is evidenced by the huge numbers of brother/sister couples, human/horse couples, parent/child couples, and people in group relationships constantly clamoring for equal rights. It seems I can't turn on the news without seeing interviews with the latest supports of Incest is Best, or Horse and Hound! Get a life and stop using the "slippery slope" argument. It is philosophically flawed and doesn't represent reality in this or any other case. |

1 It is simple fedup. All marriages should have some play in them. It makes it more exciting. Maybe we heteros should takes some lessons from the gay marriages. They certainly seem to know how to keep things playful and fun and yet at the same time keep the love and commitment. After all some of them have had to wait a long time for marriage. Maybe fedup they will give you some lessons on how to keep the playfulness in your own marriage. |

1 You have a huge imagination. Don't you think that you are carrying this a bit to far. Maybe you just had a little too much to drink or not enough sleep before typing this. You did however discriminate against one group. You did not include mothers to daughters. On the other hand maybe you think that two females marrying it okay. There is hope for you yet. |

1 Because I love another woman you are comparing it to having sex with animals? You heterosexuals complain about the santcuary of marriage, when you have a 50% divorce rate, and the average marriage last approx. 8 years. Come on you all are ruining it all by yourself. Hetersexuals take marriage as a joke, look at brittnay spears, married for all of 56 hours, because it would be fun to married. When the marriage gets to hard, bail out, what happened to for better or worse, in sickness and in health. Please, and who are you to say whom it is right for me to love, please. There is drive through marriage places, and drive through divorce places. What does that tell you about today's marriage. No hetersexuals marriage is a joke. |
Actually Jim, if Jesus came back, these bigots wouldn't believe he was Jesus and would throw him right back up on that cross. |

1 how high and mighty of you, so the right to have sex is only given to heterosexuals. hmmmm, says alot of how you think heterosexuals rule the world. please, my only (crime as you put it) is loving another human being. As for the sex it is a showing of my love for this person, on an intimate level. and you can say the same to heterosexuals, stop having pre-marital sex, and so also tell heterosexuals to stop having anal sex with their wifes, stop giving blow jobs to their husbands, and stop husbands from going down on their wifes, for it is preverted. Why is that kind of sex only for heterosexuals. Give me a break. I loving whom I choose, and you do the same, I am not going to be unhappy and miserable because you think my loving someone is wrong. So I guess there is nothing more to say. Good luck in your life, and remember, don't go down on your husband, or wife for I do not know your gender, for it is immoral and preverted. |
