Exclusion looks even dumber now

As far as I can tell, no reputable pollster has taken our state's temperature on gay marriage since 2004, when Michigan voters overwhelmingly opted to outlaw it.

Very good article.

All of the arguments used to support banning same-sex marriage, have actually contributed to the further decline of the State of Michigan.

My husband (now legal) and I chose not to consider a teaching position for him in Michigan in part because of the anti-gay marriage ban.

"As Michigan wages a mostly unsuccessful struggle to retain good jobs and well-educated workers, its policy of excluding gays (or exempting them from rights and privileges enjoyed by other citizens, which is the same thing) looks stupider with each passing day."

I've said it time and time again, it's going to come down to the money issue. With CA and MA taking in a possible $758 million over the next three years, who WOULDN'T want a piece of that? It's been estimated that the gay wedding industry could be a minimum of a $1.4 BILLION venture for this country.

Any republican should LOVE that. Just imagine how much we could lower taxes and get government out of people's lives... Hmmm... such a Catch-22 for those hypochristians it is... LOVE IT!

I come from Michigan, and I too left in part because of the decline there. Those not from Michigan can only understand by going there. Even the most bustling cities like Grand Rapids and Lansing are full of red necks riding around their farm trucks.

There are many schools that close down every year, and even the wealthier cities like Rockford are not growing anymore. I think that when a state refuses to let anyone help them that is outside of their comfort zone, it only hurts them.

I only come back to see the parents at Xmas. i try not to even admit I am from there anymore.

My family settled Michigan pre-1820 after leaving Bavaria to escape poverty and anti-Semitic persecution there. Now my partner and I are considering relocating out of Michigan for partially the same reason, only it's poverty and anti-gay persecution this time. Same sh*t, different day, right?

Top that off with the fact that the paid signature gatherers that are mostly responsible for our marriage equality ban flat-out lied to most of the people signing the petitions. The proposal should never have been on the ballot to begin with.

Proponents of the amendment told people there would be no changes to anything as it currently stands in Michigan and that it was only about protecting "one man, one woman marriage". Then 20 minutes after the amendment passed, they filed suit to end all domestic partner benefits within the state, actively taking health insurance away from the children of gay people. How the h*ll does that "protect" marriage???

Funny, that's exactly what the attorney I work for says. I totally agree and exquisite suffering it is (or in my case will be when I finally find my future husband). Congrats on your marriage
