Australian Protest Calls Pope “Homophobic”

A coalition of groups – including atheist and gay groups – rallied in Sydney, Australia against Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday. The NoToPope Coalition says Pope Benedict XVI's stand against homosexuality makes him “chief homophobe.” The group also believes the Pope's views on abortion and contraception are unacceptable.

The Pope is just like every other homophobe: totally queer. Sorry but to call gays and lesbians a "moral threat" while you're homosexuals yourself is just bullshite. One has to wonder why the Vatican is so hellbent on demonizing gays when most of priest are gay. One can only assume it's money.

Australians on a per capita basis emit more carbon emissions than even those of us in the greedy US, and all the Catholic clergy Down Under with Pope Nosferatu will hardly help matters swinging those flaming purses back and forth.

So I'm going to go out on the unpopular limb of saying that the Pope is not homophobic.

He has a religious belief that homosexuality is wrong. I don't agree, and many others out there don't either, but does that truly make him a homophobe? No. Anti-gay? Yes. But that's a different issue.

Not really. Being "just Anti-Gay" would mean that he did not attempt to use his anti-gay rhetoric/belief to influence others outside his Belief system. As he has spoken out against EVERY country and measure that recognized the civil Rights of homosexuals, I'd say he's most definitely a homophobe.

If everyone in this country followed the 10 commandments (gay or straight) then Islamic extremists would have no reason to attack the U.S.

Gay marriage is just another millstone hanging on our necks.

I want gay marriage stopped for the safety and security of this country.

Well, you might be popular with Catholics...

If the guy down the block is a raging homophobe, I don't really care, but the pope is someone that millions of people listen to and practically worship. He carries a lot more responsibility with what he says publicly. When someone labels gays as morally evil, he shares very much in the blame for perpetuating hatred and prejudice that results in violence, murder and suicide. The guy talks about "tolerance" toward gays, while at the same time calling them morally evil. He's a hypocrite and one of the top instigators of hatred and prejudice toward gays. I'd say that's more than enough to call him a homophobe.

If your statement was just about the average Catholic who has been indoctrinated with the belief that homosexuality is a sin, then I'd say you have a point. I know Catholics who believe it's "wrong" but are NOT homophobic, and don't think gays are "morally evil." The pope, although he's just a man with his own opinions, his opinions carry weight with a lot of people who believe he speaks for God. IMO the "evil" is labeling people "evil" that he knows nothing about.

Nah nasty little punks like yourself, Homie and RMOG are nothing to be scared of at all. You don't have the balls to walk up to anyone in public and Hide on here behind proxies because you don't have the nerve to face anyone.
I wouldn't know about prison, I'm sure you do though after being busted in that Sting in the Park last Month....
