Policeman Asked in Deposition: Are You Gay?

The Township of Plainsboro is a pleasant, and generally quiet, woodsy area outside of Princetown, N.J. But the semi-rural New Jersey area has become enmeshed in a controversy over whether or not police were mandated to write more traffic summons as a way to raise revenue. Then it had to deal with a poilce officer’s questioning of how he was rated on an exam for a promotion.

Everyone in Plainsboro should be ashamed of this incident of irrelevant and unnecessary questioning. The questioner should be officially censured, if not fired. An employee's -- any employee's -- sexual orientation and private sexual practices (as long as they do not harm another) should have no bearing on his/her job evaluation.
