Religious Right Celebrates End of Interracial Marriage Ban

In a move of political jujitsu, conservatives try to claim the legacy of Mildred Loving in an effort to bash gay marriage.

If it weren't for revisionist history, the conservative movement wouldn't have any history at all... Considering that Mildred Loving used the 40th anniversary of the decision that bears her name to recognize the struggles of our community to achieve marriage equality, perhaps they thought no one would notice?

I think "mommy" in Bradenton, FL, needs to either put down the crack pipe for a while or figure out how to construct an understandable sentence before she goes online again.

Sorry, I should have posted this note when I first put the article on the Gay/Lesbian forum because I knew it was going to happen. When an editor pulls an article from one of the various newslines, Topix searches the article for key words to link it to other forums on the site where it might be of interest. In this case the first sentence uses the word jujitsu, which is a martial art, which automatically linked what is a story that really should be only on the Gay/Lesbian forum to both the Jujitsu and Martial Arts forums as well and there's nothing that can be done to stop these well-intentioned but but mistaken links... Sorry...

It's not fair to be picking on "MOMMY" on this one, if you look at the related Topix in the blue box at the top of the page, you'll see the other forums where this story mistakenly automatically popped up...See above post for the explanation...

I wonder if the Rountree in the story was any relation to the Rountree members of my family.

Sorry but that still doesn't excuse her total lack of literacy. A dozen monkeys beating on a typewriter could have constructed a more legible sentence.

There is an article about her on the Washington Post. A couple paragraphs about what the Judge said in her case sums up the religious right today. All one has to do is substitute interracial with same sex and the message is the same:

Nevertheless, when they returned to Central Point, Va., between Richmond and Spotsylvania, to set up their home, someone called the law.

Caroline County Sheriff R. Garnett Brooks rousted them from their bed at 2 a.m. in July 1958 and told them the District's marriage certificate was no good in Virginia. He took them to jail and charged them with unlawful cohabitation. They pleaded guilty, and Caroline County Circuit Court Judge Leon M. Bazile sentenced them to a year's imprisonment, to be suspended if they left the state for the next 25 years.

"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix," Bazile ruled.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/...

Hmmmm... Compare the sentence "The fact that he seperated the races shows that he did not intend for them to mix" with "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve".... same rant, same hate, same venom, just a different group of human beings to focus it on.
