"The Devil in Dover" by Lauri Lebo Review

For those of you who like a quick and dirty review -- Excellent Book!

It's that understanding of character that has me place this book well above the other two I have read on the trial. I enjoyed the legal machinations in "40 days and 40 nights"by Matthew Chapman and the more extensive coverage of how Dover fits into the larger Evolution/Creationism debate in Edward Humes "Monkey Girl", but the personal nature of the characterizations Lebo describes really brought the trial home for me.

This is a terrific read! I was annoyed when my local three favorite bookstores didn't have it and I had to resort to Amazon, but I was certainly not disappointed! Don't get me wrong, I like Amazon, I just prefer to look at some books before I buy. This time it worked well!

I tried getting this through inter-library loan, but it wasn't available in the Oklahoma library system. I am hoping that is because it is so new, no library has put it on its loan list yet, rather than no library has it on the shelves.

I am looking forward to reading the book. Humes' account was excellent, but was all second hand. Lebo was present for many of the actual school board meetings, as well as the trial. I think the first hand account should be interesting.

I use the library for books I refuse to purchase, like Ann Coulter's trash. But I also like having books around as reference, so a book like this one I don't mind paying for. Plus if the author makes some $$ off me, I don't mind. I do mind sending Coulter, Behe, or Dembski one cent. It only encourages them :-)

All of our bookstores in this area are carrying her book; she is sort of a local hero. I am purchasing it also (to support her, in more ways than one). I just received Dr. Miller's book though and I want to read that one first.

It is sad about the relationship between she and her father, I had heard that they did not reconcile their differences before he died.

Wow, this book almost sounds interesting enough that I might let someone else give me the gist of it!

It was sad, and I thought she did a great job in laying out her own feelings. I feel sorry for her, but in many ways more sorry for her father. How can a parent believe in something like that to the exclusion of his kids! His obvious, well at least to me, hypocrisy in supporting someone who is knowingly lying is just plain frightening!

There are plenty of fossils and bones found in the grand canyon.

Where do you get your "facts"?

Haven't you noticed that every "point" you try and bring up is 100% false? Doesn't that tell you something about the people you are getting your information from?

Have you ever been to the grand canyon?

EVERY building, EVERY gift shop, EVERY hotel, EVERY tower, EVERY look out point mentions 3 things. The architects, the tourist railroad and the FOSSILS.

Millions of fossils ARE found in the Grand Canyon. Why did you make up that lie?(For that matter, why did you make up all the other nonsense you've posted?).

Of course, finding "bones" in the lowest strata of the canyon would be a shock. Those strata are older than vertebrate life...not that you understand THAT, either...

Actually they find bones at the bottom of the canyon all the time. Just not fossils.

Lots and lots of bones, usually from drunk guys who died while trying to piss over the lip of the canyon.:)

Now it claims no fossils found in the Grand Canyon? What the hell Creationist website did the lying little shit read that one on? Even AIG never attempted a lie like that amongst the other lies they have tried about the Grand Canyon. Desperation, it must be desperation!
