I think that his proposed firing for teaching ID is the least of this nut job’s worries. He BRANDED a cross on a student’s arm with a Bunsen burner? Uh hello, can you say assault? He is going to contest his PROPOSED firing? Why has the school board allowed him to continue in his position at all? Shouldn’t he have been immediately suspended when a student complained that he branded a cross into his arm?“The boy’s civil rights were violated”?!!!! Shouldn’t this loony tune be facing criminal charges?

The physical abuse of his students should have made it a no brainer. This has been on ScienceBlogs several times. According to one report, the science teachers of higher grades have been complaining about this teacher for years. They say his students come to their classes with huge misconceptions about science, which greatly hinders their education. The guy's own principle pulled strings so her daughter would get a different science teacher. Geez.

This guy has as much right to be a science teacher, as I do being in a sober, relevant, adult conversation.
Oh, wait...

The more you wade through the different articles, concerning the subject...well...it just boggles the mind.
Gotta love those small town, evagelical communitys that will let "complaints" be ongoing for *11 YEARS* before somethings finally addressed.
I can't WAIT to see what the "half-truths" are.
Makes you wonder how quick the reaction would have been had this same teacher been using Scientology...oh wait...we've got Louisiana now...we should know pretty soon!

The nut job BURNED a cross into a kid’s arm. He should have been immediately arrested and thrown in jail for assault and battery!!! The guy still has his job for pete’s sake!! Would it have been a “LITTLE” overboard if he had branded swastikas or pentagrams into the arms of his students with a Bunsen burner? Would he have been even allowed to set foot in the building the next day? The school board, administration, and yes even the voters of this town are all at fault, allowing this fruitcake to still teach at this school.

I fear that if the child had resisted him physically, the child would have been strongly disciplined. The issue is not fundamentalism, religion or science. It is abuse and inappropriate control. The guy belongs in a penitentiary.
