ACLU may sue city of Calabasas

The city of Calabasas could be slapped with a freedom-of-speech lawsuit unless it reverses a policy of barring grant funds from those who sue the city, the ACLU announced Monday.

Good for the ACLU on this one. Anything anyone or any group can do to stick it to those crazies in Calabasas has my vote.

The ACLU is nothing more than a modern day gestapo! If you do something THEY don't like, then they come after you! I don't know much about the city of Calabasas, but I'm tired of the ACLU telling everybody to do the things that THEY want you to do or else....

The Communist who are running Calabasas are completely out of control. The one who can read needs to pick up the Constitution of the United States and read it. Then they can inform their illiterate brethren as to the existence of the document and perhaps some of its' content.

as bad as you guys talk about the ACLU, isn't it a good thing for them to fight for some one's freedom of speech. or do you have animosity because they are always trying to help the underdog?

ACLU = Anarchists Criminal License Union. They'll all have to be shot eventually; they're beyond redemption.

The ACLU got this one right. After reading the City Council's punitive resolution policy, its clear as day. Everyone has the right to file a lawsuit against any city. The burden of proof lies with the plaintiff. Does the city have a city attorney who reviews new policy's ? I would like to know the rationale concerning its legal approval.

WHERE IS THE ACLU FOR THE AVERAGE AMERICAN? I am sick of hearing about the ACLU and all it's battles - it seems law abiding, average people have NO rights - or at least the ACLU isn't around to defend them - Who cares about the grants from Calabasas! Who cares! I used to pay dues and the such - I believed in the ACLU until I looked at the bull**it they waste time on. There are times thar Joe average needs the ACLU and they are no where to be found ...

Doesn't the City Attorney attend the City Council meetings? Every Council Meeting I've been to he/she is there. Was he sleeping or just incompetent. The City Attorney is there to make sure everything they do not only conforms to the law, but is constitutional.
Calabasas should fire him and get a City Attorney that know the law and upholds the Constitution.

People don't dislike the ACLU because it defends the underdog, people dislike the ACLU because of the positions the ACLU takes. It trounces one person's liberty to defend another's, which is often unavoidable. The problem is that the liberties that the ACLU typically fights for are those that are at odds with the masses of the people and so people feel that the ACLU is more about deconstructing our country than strengthening it on the basis it was founded.

The City of Calabasas has passed ordinances over the last couple of years that deeply infringe on the historical rights of individuals for the benefit of other individuals. The irony here is that the ACLU and the City of Calabasas Council Members are cut from the same cloth, but now find themselves at odds with on another.
