McCain's Macaca Moment

In March of 2000, Katie Hong, a Korean-American woman who worked for the Washington state government, wrote an article for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer about Senator John McCain’s remark to reporters on his campaign bus.

He said, “I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live.”

The above sentence is the "tone" of the paragraph on page 261. He says "they" instead of Muslims; It is clear he meant Muslims.

I guess that shows if you are a racist you can read whatever you want into a persons writings.

'Gook" is a racist word uttered by a man allowing racists to champion him. Associating with racist causes, allowing racist attacks, speaks to character. When you raise a character attack to avoid talking issues, you allow yourself to be examined a lot closer, e.g, Keating 5, Iran Contra, divorce, the low road brings with it deep pot holes to fall into.
It does not speak well of a man who wants to be President to be so mean spirited, mad at everyone, and just plain dirty.

Like BUSH, a supposed Republican who spends, spends, spends, and I guess then lower taxes will bail out the 10 Trillion deficit too. Right- what a con job.

My husband is a Viet Nam vet and he hates the "gooks" too. He does not hate the Vietnamese.

Anyone who implies that is what McCain meant by his remark are just plain ignorant. It is obvious to anyone with a brain that he was referring to his captors and he is certainly justified in his contempt of those who tortured him and his fellow prisoners.

Elect McCain and Medicare will be out too along with employer shared insurance...ya'll be tossed to “de-regulated” Insurance companies who will take all your money and reject all "pre-existing conditions" like cover no high ticket item. First off, I suspect he was talking specifically about his Communist captors who tortured the crap out of him and his fellow prisoners.

Second, you go through that and not hold a grudge.

Third, there are thousands of Black people who have never been thru anything CLOSE to what McCain endured, and they hate White people - and use terms like honky, peckerwood, and worse when talking about them. Just ask Louis Farrakhan.
