McCain Needs Knockout in Second Debate, Political Analysts Say

John McCain has to press his "home field" advantage in a town hall meeting while Barack Obama will try to maintain the momentum he's gained from the recent financial crisis when they engage in Round 2 of the presidential debates Tuesday night, political analysts say.

This is going to be tricky because the questions will come from independent voters. So if a voter asks McCain about the economy, he can't pull a Sarah Palin and say he refuses to answer that question but instead wants to talk about how Obama is a muslim or whatever. Also if McCain does chose to wander down the road to questioning Obama's character, there is plenty of material in both McCain and Palin's past that Obama can sling out to show that the republicans have no advantage in the character department. And McCain doesn't the wink and nose scrunchie cuteness to leverage like Sarah had.

McCain should ask Obama what his mentor of 20 years, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, meant when he stated, in his rant, at the National Press Club that "Barack Obama is a politician and he will say anything to get himself elected".

We still know little about Obama and he should explain himself and his policies!

To Bad McCain turned the Page on the Economy Issues. In light of the recent Market decline and the toll this is taking on American's retirement and pension funds, there's not a lot McCain may say that is more important.

A lot of these questions have been sent in already. If I were Obama, I would pull a Palin and use the very same method and terminology, and talk straight to the American People.

People want to be reassured that he has what it takes to move this country forward and away from this financial night mare. We are in need of calm leadership, not a illucid nitwit, suspending and ducking the issues.

For the McCain campaign to say that Obama as don't nothing except lead a Campaign says a lot now, given that McCain's campaign the wheels have fallen off and he's out of money to compete in some states, which has been traditionally red states. I would guess there's something to say now about running a campaign. Considering McCain's campaign has has been run into the ground.

Evidence enought that McCain, can't run and direct a campaign how's he going to manage the finances of America?

Elect McCain and Medicare will be out too along with employer shared insurance...ya'll be tossed to “de-regulated” Insurance companies who will take all your money and reject all "pre-existing conditions" like cover no high ticket item. Without collective bargaining power of employer group insurance , individual purchaser will be shafted. oh ya ,( McCain will give ya 5k tax credit for something that will cost you over 20k ...lol )
How nice - another take from the poor and give to the rich Insurance companies plan from the "compassionate" conservatives.

We saw wonders of “de-regulated” Fiscal Industry, wait to see wonders of “de-regulated” health insurance if McCain gets in . De-regulation are prelude to scams, want to know where the next scam is ? look for what the GOP wants “de-regulated”.

I hope that he raises the valid issue of the rampant voter fraud being executed in all swing states by Obama's pals at ACORN.

Obama just needs to engage McCain. Look at him. Engage him. Make McCain look at him. This will leave McCain as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. McCain will see Obama as "cong" the enemy. Obama just needs to force McCain to treat him as a human and not let McCain disassociate himself from Obama. Kill him with kindness but do not agree with him. Listen to the questioners and really feel their pain. Do not allow McCain to do his winking and cut him off at the pass when McCain tries to use his humor. Obama needs to add humor as well but stress that the answer to our problems is not on a battle field or can be written off with a Sharpie Pen. I know he will do well because he knows where Joe Six Pack is coming from. Do not allow McCain to even imply that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or Acorn are the blame for our economic woes. Remind McCain and the audience that he was born in 1961, hardly making him a left wing radical from the Vietnam era.

He does not need any knockout. The media hidden agenda to get Obama elected is the unseen factor propelling Obama. Even though I am neutral in this election, I view most of the media very pro Obama. The media sets up the agenda that Mcain needs a knock-out -- which is not going to happen. Then they implicitly conclude Obama is going to be president. Mcain just has to debunk Obama's argument that he is somewhat connected to the the current crisis. This mean pushing the blame on everybody including Obama and his party. As long as Mcain comes out fine in the debate, his camp can go on the attack raising questions about Obama's past dealings with fringe elements. I do not dislike any of Obama's past associations and statements described as left-wing radicalism. However, if you are both running an election to serve the interests of a few powerful interests, I think that is the way to go. Both candidates are duplicitous to the core and full of crap.

You are right. Obama has high ground. All Obama has to do is get a draw from the debate and he wins. Because McCain knows he has to come up with some kind of knock out punch, he is going in desperate. That means he will be emotional and reckless. Obama is just enough of a strategic fighter to know how to draw McCain into that desperate state and then deliver the death blow when McCain leaves himself open for attack, which he will often becuase McCain goes in full of vulnerabilities.

One candidate has promised to the voters that he will 'grow' the government.
The government still operates, in the best of times with a 30% unaccounted over charge.
Tonight they will explain 800 billion, without a promise that the plan will work.
The 800 billion plus another 30% is going to hurt. MORE !

One thing McCain will try is to treat Obama as an underling, not qualified, no experience, not worthy of his consideration. Obama needs to constantly remind the audience that McCain's experience IS his Achilles heal. He needs to remind people that we don't need gramps to get us out of this, he helped get us in it. McCain will try to blame him and then say he doesn't have enough experience in the same breath. McCain can't have his cake and eat it too. Obama needs to do like Biden and expound on the facts. Biden's knowledge is what impresses people and Obama needs to take that from his play book. Obama really needs to stress how much McCain's health care plan will actually hurt people because they will have to come up with out of pocket premium money, and it will be taxable and then talk about how hard it is to get coverage with pre-existing conditions and then ask McCain how Americans jump that hurdle under his plan. He can not allow McCain to be condescending or disrespectful.

It will be interesting to see if McWar gets his temper set off by a question from the audience.
I would love to see him blow his stack.
I hope Obama gets in his face. policy-wise, and calls him out on a few things.

Does McCain need a "knockout" or maybe...Americans need to educate themselves about BOTH candidates. Ignore the biased media and visit both of the candidates websites.

Obama has solutions to EVERY problem in the world and it won't cost us a dime!! LOL People seem to forget...Obama is just a politician...promises the world and delivers nothing.

People need to remember that the Democrats will do nothing to help the economy....the DEMOCRATS have been in charge of Congress for TWO years and look at what they have done to our economy!!

People who dislike President Bush also need to remember that NOT voting for McCain does NOT punish President Bush in any way.

Look at Obama's accomplishments and then compare them to McCains...how can people seriously think about putting a guy with only two years of Federal experience into the most powerful seat in the world??

If you needed emergency surgery...who would you prefer...a doctor with 2 years experience or a doctor with 20 years experience???? So considering the Presidency is more important than a doctor's job...who would you really want...a guy with 2 years experience or 20??

Educate yourself...THINK for yourself.

After Bailout, AIG Executives Head to Resort

Less than a week after the federal government offered an $85 billion bailout to insurance giant AIG, the company held a week-long retreat for its executives at the luxury St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, Calif., running up a tab of $440,000, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) said today at the the opening of a House committee hearing about the near-failure of the insurance giant.
