Congressman says McCain 'sowing seeds of hatred'

Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and veteran of the civil rights movement, says the negative tone of the Republican presidential campaign reminds him of the hateful atmosphere that segregationist Gov. George Wallace fostered in Alabama in the 1960s.

Duh, that's the only way he will win, is to get the hillbilly idiots to vote for him. There are still many many racist people in this country and he needs them to win. So he will walk on the line between human decency and outright hate campaigns as he tries to fool the american people.

Because the american people arent that hard to fool, as evidenced by Bush having two terms in office.

As evidenced also by the belief that raising taxes on businesses, small and large alike, will help the economy in times of hardship. Class envy is a powerful drug.

And, of course, the old standby for the Republicans: Fear.

Rep. John Lewis said what needed to be said openly. I believe that the tone and rhetoric of the McCain rallies and the Palin rallies breed fear and hatred. It is a sad irony that McCain must protest the remark by Lewis, for McCain knows he must posture even though he may agree with Lewis.(It is also ironic that Obama must downplay Lewis's remark even though he may agree with Lewis, because Obama also may need to posture.)

But I agree with Lewis: the rhetoric of fear and hate is harmful to what we treasure most, human life.

We are especially vulnerable to such rhetoric when we are already in pain from our financial crisis. We saw, following the first World War, how the fear and hatred in an impoverished Europe made the murder of six million seem not-at-all insane to the fearful Germans and the fearful others who gave in and supported the murder.

No, we don't want to compare McCain and Palin to George Wallace or to anyone else, but rather we want to McCain and Palin and all would-be leaders to put duty-to-the-people above the desire for power-at-any-cost.

You know, you would think eventually that some of these fools would realise that the Republicans market in Fear and Resentment, and Anger because they simply have nothing else to offer anyone who isnt a corporate CEO.
Every four years the Co-sign and Validate these base emotions of the ignorant.
It makes the stupes feel good for a few months and gets the GOP what it wants for another four years.
I think they may have went to the well one time too many this election.

Ol' Johnny Hatredseed, sowing seeds of hatred up and down the country.

Poor guy, not bad enough he's out of touch with the American public, he's out of touch with members of his own party.

You have McCain backers screaming things like Obama is a terrorist, a Muslim, vote-cheater, racist, yadda yadda yadda. Yes, the Fear Card is working well for McCain. Just remember: the millions that were dumb enough to vote for Dumbya TWICE are the same ones backing McCain. As Forrest Gump would say: That's all I have to say about that.

It appears Rep John Lewis has thrown Candidate McCain under the bus. He apparently forgot the nice things McCain said about him. What does this say about Rep Lewis?

Rep. John Lewis and every senator and/or politician (whatever party) should be speaking up about McCain and his group inciting violence to win this election.

For a man of so-called honor, this is a very dangerous tactic that will not only hurt his reputation and his wannabe vp but is also hurting this country.

"Something's happening in America, something some of us did not see coming", Lweis said. "Barack Obama has tapped into something that is extraordinary.
"It's a movement, it's a siritual event," said Lewis of the surging Obama campaign. It's amazing what's happening".
He sounds as if he is describing candidate Obama as a god.

I agree. I wish the dirty, angry politics didn't start in the first place. Now we have every psycho on both sides coming out of the woodwork. I think, as you do, that McCain and Palin should have stuck to the issues at hand. They may have shot themselves in the foot (or mouth, as it were), but I also think the current Republicans in the White House screwed it up so much that ANY Republican didn't have a shot at winning this election. Who knows for sure until election day.
