John McCain's speech to the RNC

Sen. John McCain spoke to the Republican National Convention on Thursday night. Here is the text of that speech:

Thank you. Thank you all very much. Thank you.

Tonight, I have a privilege given few Americans: the privilege of accepting our party's nomination for president of the United States.

GOP Pundits agree: McCain's speech SUCKED!

The Nation -- John McCain's nomination speech was so flat, so disjointed, so utterly devoid of any vision or affirmative plan for the U.S.-- it's hard to say much about it, other than it sucked. That's basically what CNN's Republican Senior Correspondent Jeffrey Toobin was driving at when he panned it in historic proportions on Thursday, declaring it the "worst speech by a nominee" since 1980. It was, Toobin added, a "shockingly bad," "boring," "theme-less" train wreck.

Another GOP pundit, former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson, said McCain's poor policy emphasis in the speech represented a missed opportunity.

Finally, former Republican White House official and uber-pundit David Gergen criticized McCain's "rerun" of "thin" policies. "I think the country is looking for fresh answers," he said. "It's hard to separate yourself out from President Bush when you essentially have the same economic policies as President Bush."

Is John McCain running against himself? They brag how he is a Maverick and reaches across the aisle and that he is a tested leader. If this is true why has he not already made changes. He is part of the problem not the solution. By the way his intro video was great. It was so moving to see how he and Cindy started lying to each other at the very beginning. I can't imagine this truthful and honest man not mentioning the wife back home raising his children.

In case you're a gambler.....

With all the recent news the presidential race is a lot closer, but Mrs. Clinton is now out of the race. Senator Barack Obama remains the favorite with 1-2 odds (a $100 wager pays out $50). John McCain is right behind him 3-2 odds (a $100 wager pays out $150) and the long shot is Ron Paul with 100-1 odds.

You lost me......Are you combining information about different wifes? Did you mean his first wife, the one that he cheated on, or Cindy?

My favorite line in his speech was when he said he would lower taxes "where he can"......I'm assuming he's talking about lower taxes for his supporter......BIG OIL.

I was amazed that the speech included a 90 second acknowledgment that people making under $5 Million a year were losing their financial lives. That was the first honest thing said in his convention of lies.

Notice there were no specific policy proposals?

They don't dare reveal their plans. The silence is deafening.

It was a good speech, but
How are we going to change, by staying the course???

Isnt that sort of like trying to catch up by going slower???

Boy, talk about misinformation.
Thats not what Obama said.
With that type of fabricating, you may have a future in talk radio.

Nice excerpt from his reply. I guess it fits the way you're trying to twist it. Try posting his entire response to put it in context.

Agree and disagree.

I disagree about it being a good speech as it was one of the worst speeches in its delivery and content that I've seen in a LONG time.

I completely that he tried to distance himself from Bush only to turn around and lay out the exact same policy plans Bush has used to get us where we are.

My favorite one liner from one of the analysts (since McCain and his camp seem to like punch lines so much).....His speech was "Back to the Future."

This is because their plans are already in place. Bush put them in place, all they have to do is move into the white house

So true. Didn't Bush try to ride his white horse into Washington with a pledge for a transperent govt. Sort of like I'm a uniter not a devider...as in reach accross party lines...to clean out corruption...I think Karl Rove gave him Bush's acceptance speech by mistake.
