Obama in 2002: I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war … I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200712/obama/3 McCain in 2003: –“Their morale could not be higher. This is a mission accomplished. They know how much influence Saddam Hussein had on the Iraqi people, how much more difficult it made to get their cooperation.”[This Week, ABC, 12/14/03] – During an appearance on Fox News, host Neil Cavuto said,“many argue the conflict isn’t over.” McCain answered,“Well, then why was there a banner that said mission accomplished on the aircraft carrier? Look, the — I have said a long time that reconstruction of Iraq would be a long, long, difficult process, but the conflict — the major conflict is over, the regime change has been accomplished.”[FOX, Your World With Neil Cavuto, 6/11/03] Who was right? Who showed better judgment? Whose finger do you want on the button?

More McCain quotes for your consideration: –“I believe that this conflict is still going to be relatively short.”[NBC, 3/30/03] –-“It’s clear that the end is very much in sight.”[ABC, 4/9/03] –-“I think the situation on the ground is going to improve,” he says.“I do think that progress is being made in a lot of Iraq. Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course. If I thought we weren’t making progress, I’d be despondent.”[The Hill, 12/8/05]

Senator McCain said: “We won a massive victory in a few weeks, and we did so with very limited loss of American and allied lives. We were able to end aggression with minimum overall loss of life, and we were even able to greatly reduce the civilian casualties of Afghani and Iraqi citizens. http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/08/18/coun...

Well you morons who want to cut on McCain, unlike the vast majority of Senators he has had a son in combat in Iraq (US Marines). On top of that Obama had not even been to Iraq more than once till McCain busted him on it and even then Obama had to reluctantly admit things were good.

Funny that McAmnesty sent a letter to Bush in 2003 saying that RUMSFELD was an IDIOT and that we needed to send at least 20,000 MORE troops. Hmmmmmmmmm we did send in more troops finally and Obama admitted that the surge is working. http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/n... Seems McAmnesty was RIGHT all along and Obama was WRONG and is trying to play catch up. Funny that McAmnesty is 5 points ahead of the messiah in todays polls.

Obama's an idiot. He's against drilling He's for us being defeated in Iraq He's for the largest tax increase in history Latest poll results have McCain up 5 points! People are starting to wake up. Everyone in their heart knows that liberalism is the death of a nation. What do the liberals want to do to America? Weaken our military Ruin what's left of our families Promote the gay agenda Redistribute our incomes that we earned to give it to people who didn't earn it And Obama once again says "don't question my patriotism". Who does this jerk think he is. I'm sick of him telling me what to think. Screw him. He's a lib socialist LOSER as far as I'm concerned that will sell us out to the Islamists on top of it all.

Seems McAmnesty was RIGHT all along and Obama was WRONG and is trying to play catch up. Funny that McAmnesty is 5 points ahead of the messiah in todays polls. Funny that the Iraqi government agreed with Obama's plan to gradually withdraw our combat troops from Iraq. Funny that this forced McCain to change his position: McCain, who has wrapped up his party's White House nomination, has long argued against setting a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal. But the discussion on troop levels has shifted in recent days after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki seemed to endorse Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's call for troops to be gone within 16 months of his taking office. Obama met with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad on Monday, and an Iraqi government spokesman said Maliki told the Illinois senator conditions on the ground should dictate troop withdrawals.... "I think they could be largely withdrawn," the Arizona senator replied, citing the success of the "surge" strategy of increasing U.S. troop levels in increasing security in the country. http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/i...

That quote was from McCain in May, 2003. McCain started urging a surge in late 2006. He was hedging his bets, figuring that Bush would never send the troops and he would be able to say "I tried" when he ran for Prez. Obama was right. There was no danger to the US or Israel from Saddam. There were no WMD. There was no link with AQ. There was no nuclear program. There was no reason to invade. There was oil. There was the White House Iraq Group, formed to coordinate the propaganda push to terrify the people into compliance. There was the Office of Special Plans, formed to fabricate the intelligence from sources like Chalabi, who the CIA considered a double agent. There were the Cheney maps of Iraq, showing Iraq's oil fields with US oil companies names on them. There was the Downing Street Memo: DAVID MANNING From: Matthew Rycroft Date: 23 July 2002 S 195 /02 IRAQ: PRIME MINISTER'S MEETING, 23 JULY [...]C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action[...] http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/memos.html And there was Barack Obama saying it was a lie. And you dare to say that McCain has better judgment than Obama? Fool.

athy wrote: Sen Obama has misled the American people about his position on Iraq right from the start. Read these transcripts from Meet the Press interview conducted by Tim Russert Sen Obama has no moral compass to guide his actions in life-and poltics...Actions are guided by political expediency... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5488345/ Transcript for July 25, 2004 Guests: State Senator Barack Obama,(D-Ill.);Former Governor Thomas Kean,(R-N.J.) Chair, 9-11 Commission; Former Representative Lee Hamilton,(D-Ind.) Vice Chair, 9-11 Commission; Tom Brokaw, NBC News An excerpt from this transcript: “MR. RUSSERT: You also said this: "...I also know that Saddam possesses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history." The nominee of your party, John Kerry, the nominee for vice president, John Edwards, all said he was an imminent threat. They voted to authorize George Bush to go to war. How could they have been so wrong and you so write as a state legislator in Illinois and they're on the Foreign Relations and Intelligence committees in Washington? STATE REP. OBAMA: Well, I think they have access to information that I did not have. And what is absolutely clear is that John Kerry said, "If we go into war, let's make sure that we do it right. Let's make sure that our troops are supported. Let's make sure that we have the kind of coalition that's necessary to succeed." And the execution of what was a difficult choice to make was something that all of us have to be concerned about. And moving forward, the only way that we're going to be able to succeed is if, I think, we have an administration led by John Kerry that's going to allow us to consolidate the relationships with our allies that bring about investment in Iraq. MR. RUSSERT: But if you had been a senator at that time, you would have voted not to authorize President Bush to go to war? STATE REP. OBAMA: I would have voted not to authorize the president given the facts as I saw them at that time. MR. RUSSERT: So you disagree with John Kerry and John Edwards? STATE REP. OBAMA: At that time, but, as I said, I wasn't there and what is absolutely clear as we move forward is that if we don't have a change in tone and a change in administration, I think we're going to have trouble making sure that our troops are secure and that we succeed in Iraq. MR. RUSSERT: We can't withdraw the troops immediately? STATE REP. OBAMA: I don't think so.” I don't think there is any lack of moral compass here. I see a man who is saying that he wouldn't have gone in, but that we needed to "consolidate the relationships with our allies that bring about investment in Iraq." Which, of course, was impossible to accomplish, given that Bush stole the election in Ohio and ran around the world telling all our allies to kiss his a$$ for the next three years. Iraq could have turned out well if we had followed the course Obama was urging. You are so blinded by hatred you can't see the world in front of your nose.
